Surprise Birthday Party

There was a monkey named Manku.
Manku lived in a Cave.

A lake was near the cave,
Ducky, the drake and his sister
Lucky lived in the lake.
Jin and Jenny, the cranes lived near
the lake.
All of them were Manku's friends.
They loved to play together.

One day Manku became very happy.
"Oh ! Tomorrow is Sunday and Sunday is my birthday.
Ducky, Lucky, Jin and Jenny will come to say,
Happy Birthday. " said Manku.
Soon it was Sunday .
Manku waited for a long time for hours and hours.
But no one came. So he felt very sad.

Manku went to the lake. But no one was there.
So sadly Manku came back to his cave.
Manku was surprised to see the cake
on the table.
"Wow ! A cake !" said Manku.

Ducky, Lucky, Jin and Jenny came out and shouted, "Happy Birthday
to you....
Happy Birthday dear....
Happy Birthday d... Manku."
"We were waiting to give you a surprise". all said.
"I baked cake for you ",said Jin.
"I bought you some grapes." said Jenny
"And we have made this table for you", said Ducky and Lucky.

"It's really a surprise for me. Thanks, my dear friends. You all are really great !
I LOVE YOU ALL,"
said Manku.
Then they all danced together.

 The jungle King

The animals and birds of the jungle were talking by the side of the pond. It was their King's birthday on Friday. "What are you all giving the King?" asked the elephant. "I am giving him choice pieces of meat," said the fox. 'We have made a soft pillow for him,' said the rabbits. " I am giving a fan made of feathers, " said the peacock. Hearing them talk, the cuckoo felt sad. The wise owl saw her sad face and asked her, 'Why are you sad ?" The cuckoo replied, "I don't have anything to give to the King Lion. " The owl smiled and gave her an idea.

It was the day of the King's birthday. One by one, the animals gave presents to the king. When the cuckoo's turn came, she told the king, "Your Majesty, I am going to sing a song for you. " she then started singing sweetly. Hearing her sweet voice, the peacock started dancing. One by one, the other animals joined the peacock. 'This is the best present no one has ever given me, ' said King Lion and started dancing too.

The Clothesline

Hand in hand they dance in a row,
Hither and thither, and to and from,
Flip! Flap! Flop! and away they go  --------
Follett' ring creatures as white as snow,

Like restive horses they caper and prance;
Like fairy-tale witches they wildly dance;
Rounded in front, but hollow behind,
They shiver and skip in the merry March wind.

One I saw dancing excitedly,
Struggling so wildly till she was free,
Then, leaving pegs and clothesline behind her,
She flew like a bird, and no one can find her.

I saw her gleam, like a sail, in the sun,
Flipping and flapping and flopping for fun.
Nobody knows where she now can be,
Hid in a ditch, or drowned in the sea.

She was my handkerchief not long ago,
But she'll never come back to my pocket,
I Know.

Chameleons

Chameleons are seldom seen,
they're red,
they're orange,
then they're green,
they're one of nature's strangest sights,
their colours change like traffic lights.

The Little Rose Tree

Every rose on the little tree
Is making a different face at me !
Some look surprised when I pass by,
And others droop - but they are shy.
These two whose heads together press
Tell secrets I could never guess.
Some have their heads thrown back to sing,
And all the buds are listening.
I wonder if the gardener knows,
Or if he calls each just a rose?

One Bright Day ......
(A Hand-clapping Rhyme)

One bright day in the middle of the night,
Two dead soldiers got up to fight.

Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other.

A deaf policeman heard the noise
And ran to save the two dead boys.

If you don't believe this lie is true,
Ask the blind man, he saw it too.

The Silver House

There's a silver house in the lovely sky,
As round as a silver crown;
It takes two weeks to build it up,
And two to pull it down.

There's a man who lives in the silver house,
In a lonely sort of way;
But what his name is no one knows,
Or no one likes to say.

Yet when you go to bed tonight,
Just draw the window blind,
And peep out at the silver moon,
This lonely man to find.

But if his house is taken down,
And all the sky is bare,
Then go to bed, because, of course,
The poor man won't be there.

It Can Be Done

The man who misses all the fun,
Is he who says, "It can't be done."

In solemn pride he stands aloof
And greets each venture with reproof.

Had he the power he'd efface
The history of the human race;

We'd have no radio or motor cars,
No streets lit by electric stars;

No telegraph nor telephone,
We'd linger in the Age of Stone.

The world would sleep if things were run
By men who say "It can't be done."

The Donkey

I saw a donkey one day old.
His head was too big
for his neck to hold;
His legs were shaky
and long and loose,
They rocketed and staggered
and weren't much use.

 He tried to gambol
and frisk a bit,
but he wasn't quite sure
of the trick of it.
His queer little coat
was soft and grey
and curled at his neck
in a lovely way.

His face was wistful
and left no doubt
that he felt life needed
some thinking about.
So he blundered round
in venturesome quest,
and then lay flat on the ground
to rest.

He looked so little
and weak and slim,
I prayed the world
might be good to him.

My Telescope

I bought myself a telescope,
To look into the sky.
To see the solar system,
And the comets whizzing by.
I search the sky for planets,
For satellites and stars,
And now I've got a telescope,
They don't seem very far.

It's brought them very close to me.
It's made the stars my friends.......
Except, of course, when I make a mistake,
And look through the wrong end !

Sleep, My Treasure

Sleep, sleep, my treasure,
The long day's pleasure
Has tired the birds to their nests they creep;
The garden still is
Alight with lilies,..
But all the daisies are fast asleep...

Sleep, sleep, my darling,
Dawn wakes the starling,
The sparrow stirs when he sees day break;
But all the meadow
Is wrapped in shadow,
And you must sleep till the daisies wake!

Mr Nobody

I know a funny little man,
As quiet as a mouse,
Who does the mischief that is done
In everybody's house!
There's no one ever sees his face,
And yet we all agree
That every plate we break was cracked
By Mr. Nobody.

This he who always tears out books,
Who leaves the door ajar,
He pulls the buttons from our shirts,
And scatters pins afar;
That squeaking door will always squeak,
For prithee, don't you see,
We leave the oiling to be done
By Mr. Nobody.

The finger marks upon the door
By none of us are made;
We never leave the blinds unclosed,
To let the curtains fade.
The ink we never spill; the boots
That lying round you see
Are not our boots - they all belong
To
Mr. Nobody.

If I can stop one heart from breaking .......

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

An Autumn Greeting

"Come, little leaves,"
Said the wind one day,
"Come over the meadows
With me, and play,
Put on your dresses
Of red and gold;
Summer is gone,
And the days grow cold."

Soon as the leaves
Heard the wind's loud call,
Down they came fluttering,
One and all;
Over the meadows
They danced and flew,
Singing the soft
Little songs they knew.

Dancing and flying
The little leaves went;
Winter had called them
And they were content -
Soon fast asleep
In their earthy beds,
The snow laid a soft mantle
Over their heads.

Happy Sounds

The rooster says,  'Cock-a doodle-do,'

The doves they listen and, coo, coo, coo,

The hens they cluck and donkeys hee-haw,

'Meow,' says the cat and lifts its paw.

The horses neigh, the dog barks, 'Bow wow.'

'Baa, baa,' say the sheep, 'Moo, 'says the cow.

Pigeons on roof tops start to warble,

The turkeys shake their chins and gobble,

'Quack,' say the duck waddling to the pond,

Geese honk, 'Of the pond we too are fond.'

Animals we know make a lot of noise,

But then so do happy girls and boys!

Big Tom

Big Tom is a cat.
Big Tom is a fat cat.

Big Tom is a black cat.
Big Tom sits on a mat.

Big Tom has a long tail.
Big Tom has green eyes.

Big Tom drinks milk.

Big Tom likes cats.
Big Tom does not like rats.

Big Tom does not like dogs.
Big Tom sees a rat.

He runs after the rat.
The rat runs fast.

The eat goes into a hole.
It lives in the hole.

Big Tom sits on the mat.
He looks at the hole.

The rat does not come out.
Big Tom is angry.

He waves his tail.
Nat comes into the room.

Big Tom is Nat's pet.
Nat likes cats.

Nat does not like rats.
Nat pats Big Tom.

He gives Big Tom some milk.
Big Tom laps up the milk.

Big Tom is happy.
He sits on Nat's lap.

Big Tom purrs and goes to sleep.
We must feed our pets.
We must look after our pets.

All About Me

This is my head.
And these are my ears,
To hear whatever,
My teacher has said.

These are my eyes
And this is my face,
This is my mouth,
That tells no lies.

This is my nose
That helps a lot,
It smells French Fries,
And a pink rose.

See my elbows,
They are so clean,
My ten fingers,
Can touch my toes!

They help me write,
And hold a book,
My two small hands
They fly my kite.

My legs are long,
Those are my feet,
My knees between
Are Oh so strong!

I'M Older Now

When once I was a tiny tot,

For little things I cried a lot.

The day I fell and hurt my knee,

Or when I saw a bumblebee.

I'm bigger now, and  older today,

I often fall when I do play,

I get up and dust off my clothes,

And, wipe the mud off my nose.

I'm taller now as you can see,

I do not know how tall I'll be,

But Mama says, 'Each day you grow

I bought those jeans a month ago!'

The Jungle is Our Home

We are monkeys.
We live in trees.
We swing from branch to branch.
We love to eat fruits.
We chatter all day.
The jungle is our home.

We are tigers.
Our babies are called cubs.
Many animals are afraid of us.
We roar loudly.
The jungle is our home.

We are deer.
Our babies are called fawns.
We eat leaves and grass.
We hear the roar of the tiger.
We run away fast.
The jungle is our home.
We are brown rabbits.
We have some white cousins.
We make our homes in the ground.
Our homes are called burrows.
We eat leaves and grass.
We go to the Kumar's garden.
We eat carrots in the garden.
The jungle is our home.

We are giraffes.
We are very tall.
We have long necks.
We also have long legs.
We eat leaves from trees.
We like to live close to the jungle.

We are elephants.
We trumpet loudly.
We eat leaves.
We walk slowly.
We swing our long trunks from side
to side. The jungle is our home.

We are parrots.
We make our nests in holes in trees.
Many birds live in the jungle.
The jungle is our home.

We are fish.
We live in ponds in the jungle.
We are frogs.
We croak loudly when it rains.
We live near ponds in the jungle.
The jungle is our home.

Don't throw plastic bags in the ponds.
Don't throw cans and bottles in the ponds.
Don't cut down trees.

Tim and The Dentist

The dentist in his coat of white,
He gives Tim a terrible fright,
He makes him open his mouth wide,
And looks at all the teeth inside.

He shakes his head and says to Tim,
Too many sweets are bad for him.
'Have milk and butter and some cheese,
Fresh fruits and vegetables please.'

'Brush your teeth both morning and night,
Use a sift brush as that's just right,
And you will smile and never fear,
Just meet the dentist twice a year.'

You put your right foot out;

And you turn yourself around.
You do the boogie-woogie,
That's what it's all about!

You put your left foot in,
You put your left foot out;
You put your left foot in,
And you shake it all about.

You do the boogie-woogie,
And you turn yourself around.
You do the boogie-woogie,
That's what it's all about!

Then I grew some new, green leaves.

I soon had flowers.

Now, I have ripe, juicy fruits.

Priya liked sweets.
Her Granny gave her
one sweet at a time.
But Priya wanted more.
Many many more.

She quickly put her hand in the jar of sweets.
She took one, two, five, ten, many.
But her hand was stuck in the jar.
She could not take it out.
She began to cry.
'Oh, what shall I do ?'

'Let go of the sweets,' said her Granny.
Priya let go of some sweets.
Still, her hand would not come out.
She let go of some more sweets.
Now there was only one in her hand.
Her hand came out of the jar easily.

She began to smile,
and looked at her Granny.
Granny smiled too. Priya said,
"Now I will take only one at a time!"

anything you like.'

'Shall we buy chocolates ?'
'Shall we buy crayons ?'
'Shall we buy a toy ?'
'Please help us, mother.
What should we buy ?'

'Well, you can buy something that will finish up quickly, or, you can buy something that
will last long. You can buy something made by others,
or, you can buy things and make something yourself.'

'That's a good idea. Let us buy
things and make new things with them.'

Rohan and Sania picked up some things.
They went to the counter.

'We want to buy this paper, glue and colours.
How much is it ?'

The Snail and the Cherry Tree

Once there lived a snail in Kashmir. It lived in a little hole near a cherry tree. It was the
month of January.
It was very very cold in Kashmir.

There was snow everywhere. There was no grass on the ground. There were no leaves or flowers on the trees. There were no birds, no butterflies.
The snail lay in his shell.

But soon, the sun began to shine bright. The snow melted.
It was spring. Fresh grass came up
on the ground.

The snail peeped out of his shell. 'Oh, what a
beautiful day!
Look at the blue sky.
The sun is so warm, 'he said.
'I feel so fresh and fit. Now I'll climb this tree and eat sweet cherries.'

So the snail began to climb the cherry tree.
A frog saw him.
"Where are you going, Snail?"
he asked.
"I am going to the top of the tree to eat the sweet cherries,"
Said the snail.

"But there is nothing on the tree - no cherries, no flowers,
not even leaves !" said the frog.
"Soon there will be!" said the snail.

The snail climbed on and on. He climbed all day,
rested at night and began to climb again
the next day.
On the way he met a squirrel.
"Where are you going, snail?"
"I am going to the top of the tree to eat the sweet cherries."

"But there are no cherries on the tree,"
said the squirrel.
"You get cherries only in summer."

"I know," the snail said. "I want to reach the top before it is summer.

See you later," and he climbed on.
Now there were tender leaves and buds everywhere on the cherry
tree. Soft breezes blew. The snail felt very happy.

He met some birds. They were flying
through the branches.

"Where are you going, Snail?" they asked.

"I am going to the top of the tree to eat
the sweet. ripe cherries,"
said the snail.
"It's not yet time for cherries," said the birds.
"You will have to wait."

"But I cannot stop,"
said the snail.
And he climbed on.

Soon, white blossoms grew on the tree.
The snail kept on climbing.
Wherever
he looked, he saw pretty white flowers.
He met some bees.

"Where are you going, snail?"
they asked.
"I am going to the top of the tree to eat the sweet, red cherries."

"Cherries?"
the bees laughed. "These are blossoms,
not cherries. You are a funny fellow."

But the snail climbed on and on. Now it wasn't cold.
It was bright and warm.
The snail could now see small,
round fruit growing
everywhere.

A Happy Song

When you are  happy
And you know it,
Clap your hands.

When you are happy
And you know it,
Clap your hands.

When you are happy
And you know it,
And you really want to show it,

When you are happy
And you know it,
Clap your hands.

Bubbles

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere
Landing on the floor.

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere
Floating to the door.

Big ones and small ones
Shining in the sun.

Bubbles popping all around
Oh, What fun!

The Big Red Balloon

A big red balloon
Went up in the sky.
He smiled at the kite,
And said, 'Goodbye'.

The Green Brigade

This is the way we sow the seeds,
Sow the seeds, sow the seeds.
This is the way we sow the seeds.
We are the Green Brigade.

Garden Manners

Do we ever harm the plants?
No, no, no. No, no, no,
We never ever harm the plants.
We are the Green Brigade.

Munnu's Colorful Meals

Munnu was eating her lunch. She liked potatoes.
She ate potatoes and nothing else.

"Try some vegetables,"
said her father.

"No!" said Munnu.
"Try some red and orange carrots,"
said her mother.
"No!"
said Munnu.
"Look at my plate.
There are so many colours
on it,"
said her father.

"But I don't want any colours.
I don't like any colours,"
said Munnu.

The colour fairy was
listening. She told everyone,
"Munnu doesn't like colours."

In the evening, Munnu went to the park with her father.
There was a balloon an at the gate.

He had many balloons------------blue and red
and pink and orange and green.

Munnu wanted to buy a colorful balloon.

"Oh, but you don't like colours!"
said all the balloons.

Munnu and her father went to
a flower shop.
There were many
flowers in the shop-------pink and
red and yellow and violet.

"The flowers look so pretty.
Such bright colours!" said Munnu.

"But you don't like colours!"
said all the flowers.

Then Munnu remembered her favorite red dress,
and yellow ball and blue shoes.
When she sat down to her dinner, she said,
"I do like colours, but not on my plate!"

"You need not have all the colours on your plate,"
said her mother.

"Right, I don't think we have
anything blue here,"
said her father.

"Colorfully meals are good meals,"
said her mother.
"You must have at least three different colours on your plate."

"I 'll try," Munnu said
After that, Munnu's meals became quite colourful.

A Number Rhyme

Nine and ten, nine and ten,
A little green parrot and a little red hen.

Doggie Gets Hurt

'Sania, come here, please.
Look at this doggie.
It cannot jump.
It cannot walk.
It is limping.
What is wrong with it?'

'Look, Rohan.
It has hurt its paw.
Poor little doggie!
Let us take it to the doctor.'

'Doctor, please look at the doggie.
It has hurt its paw.'
'Let me see.
Let us wash its paw.

'Now I will
put this medicine on its paw.
I will also
put a bandage.
Bring it to me again,
tomorrow.

'It will soon get well.'
'Thank you, Doctor,
Thank you very much.'

The Little Monkey

Once a little monkey said to a duck,
"Show me your ears."
The duck laughed and said,
"Show me your bill."

The little monkey said to the cow,
"Show me your hands."
The cow laughed and said,
"Show me your horns."

The little monkey said to a butterfly,
"Show me your toes."
The butterfly laughed and said,
"Show me your wings."

The little monkey said to the elephant,
"Show me your thumb."
The elephant laughed and said,
"Show me your trunk."

The little monkey said to a little boy,
"Show me your tail."
The boy laughed and said,
"Look, this is my tail."

Then, the monkey laughed, too.
And the little boy
and the little monkey
played together.

An Action Song

Touch your head,
And touch your toes.
Shut your eyes
And pull your nose.

Clap your hands
And turn around.
Jump up high
And sit on the ground.

Raju's Story

It was Sunday morning.
Raju was lying in his bed.
"Get up, Raju," his mother said.
Raju stretched and yawned.

"Get up quickly and brush your teeth," said his mother.

But Raju did not want to brush his teeth.
He wanted to play.

"Hi, Raju," Someone said from the mirror,
"Let's play."

Raju looked at the mirror person.

"But you are so dirty!"
"So what! Let's play."

"Yuck! "
said Raju.
"You smell bad."
"So do you."
"Your teeth are yellow."
"So are yours."
"Your mouth is sticky."
"So is yours."

"And look at your hair!"
"Look at yours!"
"I like clean friends!"
"So do I. I am your mirror image!

If you want a clean friend,
you must act!
If you brush your teeth,
my teeth will be white.

If you comb your hair,
my hair will look nice.
If you take a bath,
I will not smell bad.

Raju jumped up.
He brushed his teeth.
He combed his hair.
He had a bath.
He put on clean clothes.
And rushed to the mirror.

Do's and Don'ts

Don't....

Bite your nails.

throw rubbish on the floor.

Do......

Help your friends.
use a handkerchief.
Smile
finish your tiffin.
wash your hands clean.
Put rubbish in the dustbin.

Ten Fingers Fine

One finger, two fingers,
Three fingers, four.
When you say what follows,
I will show you more.

Five fingers, six fingers,
Seven fingers, eight.
Bring them together,
And hold them straight.

The little thumb on this hand
Makes it nine,
The other thumb joins them
I have ten fingers fine.

The Forgetful Girl

Once there lived a girl,
Who was very, very forgetful.

When she went to school,
she forgot to take the books.

When she went back home,
she left the water-bottle behind.

When she went to the playground,
she left the ball behind.

When she went for a picnic,
she left her scarf in the bus.

When she went to buy a pencil,
she left the money at home.

she made a greeting card for her friend,
but forgot to give it.

'Oh, how I wish I could remember things properly. 'she said

The Little Red Hen

A little red hen lived on a farm with a cat, a dog and a duck. One day, she found a few grains of wheat.
"Who will sow the wheat?"
she said.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I, said the cat.
"Not I," said the dog.
"Very well then,"
said the Little Red Hen, "I will."
So she sowed the wheat.

After some time, the wheat grew tall with ears full of grain.
"Who will cut the wheat?"
asked the Little Red Hen.
"Not I, " said the duck.
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the dog.
"Very well then,"
said the Little Red Hen, "I will."
So she cut the wheat.

"Now," she said,
"Who will thresh the wheat?"
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I, "said the cat.
"Not I," said the dog.
"Very well then,"
Said the Little Red Hen, "I will."
So she threshed the wheat.

When the wheat was threshed, she said,
"Who will grind the wheat?"
"Not I, "said the duck.
"Not I, "said the cat.
"Not I, "said the dog.
"Very well then,"
said the Little Red Hen, "I will."
So she ground the wheat.
When the wheat was ground into flour, she said,
"Who will bake the bread?"
"Not I, "said the duck.
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the dog.
"Very well then,"
said the Little Red Hen, "I will."
And she baked a lovely loaf of bread.

Then she said,
"Who will eat the bread?"
"Oh! I will," said the duck.
"Oh! I will," said the cat.
"Oh! I will," said the dog.
"Oh, no, you won't!"
said the Little Red Hen, "I will."
And she called her chicks and they all ate up the lovely loaf of bread.

Three Little Kittens

Three little Kittens
lost their mittens,
And they began to cry,
"Oh mother dear,
We very much fear,
We have lost our mittens ! Oh my !'

"You naughty kittens,
lost your mittens,
Then you shall have no pie."
'Miaow, miaow, miaow,'
"No, you shall have no pie.'
'Miaow, miaow, miaow.'

Three little kittens
found their mittens,
And they began to cry,
'Oh mother dear,
See here, see here,
We have found our mittens ! Oh my !'

'Put on your mittens,
you silly kittens,
And you may have some pie.'
'Purr, Purr, Purr.'
'Now you may taste the pie.'
'Purr, Purr, Purr.'

Good, Better, Best.....

Good, better, best.
Never let it rest
Till your good is better
And your better, best.

Mr. Cross swats a fly !

Mr. Cross was always angry. He was always angry with his family and friends. He lost his temper every now and then. He shouted at his wife and children. He shouted at his friends too. So they all stayed away from him, as far as possible. This made him angrier.

One day, Mr. Cross was busy writing a letter. He wanted to complain to the Mayor about all the other people in the town.

Just then, through the open window, a fly buzzed in.

Oh, bother ! At once, Mr. Cross got up and began to shoo away the fly.

"Shoo ! Out ! Out you go !"
But the fly didn't go away.
It began to buzz around the
ink-pot on the table.

Mr. Cross grabbed a ruler and hit at the fly.

But oh ! What's this ?
The ink-pot fell and all the ink splashed over his letter.

Now Mr. Cross was very very cross with the fly.

"Hey, you, fly ! You dirty thing! Wait till I swat you."

He rushed after the fly.

The fly flew into the Kitchen.
It settled on a pot of honey.
Down went
Mr. Cross's ruler.
It toppled the pot of honey.
The honey spilled on the table.

Buzz...buzz....buzz went the fly.
Snap, snap, snap went
Mr. Cross's
ruler. trying to get the fly. But, no ! He couldn't swat the fly.
It buzzed merrily from place to place.

The fly then flew to a shelf of jars.
Mr. Cross was now trembling with anger.
"Wait, you wicked creature!
I'll get you still !"

He picked up a rod and brought it down heavily on the fly.
But the fly was too quick for Mr. Cross.
The rod landed on the jar and .... crash !
The jar broke into a hundred pieces.

Buzzzzz went the fly louder than ever. Wherever the fly went,
Mr. Cross followed with his rod.

Buzzz... buzzz... buzzz...! Jars, cups ,saucers, plates,
bowls, glasses, pots,...
everything went crashing to the floor.
What a mess the kitchen was !

But Mr. Cross could not stop now. He threw away the rod and began to look for something bigger to swat the fly.

He found a large and heavy frying pan.
Holding it in both his hands, he got ready to strike.
Just then, the fly came towards Mr. Cross and settled on his nose.

"Got you!"
cried Mr. Cross and, oh dear! He struck his own nose with the pan!

The fly flew out of the window.

Plant Magic

A little seed
For me to sow...
A little earth
To make it grow...

A little hole
A little pot...
A little wish
And that is that.

A little sun
A little shower
A little while,
And then a flower.

I Wish I Were

Ashwin had gone to the park with his mother.
He saw a red balloon floating high in the sky.
"Look at the balloon, "
he said to his mother.
"How pretty it looks! I wish I could be a balloon."

"And what will you do if you were a balloon?"

"I'LL GO UP IN THE SKY AND ROAM WITH THE WIND.

When I see children who don't have any toys, I'll go down and play with them."

.............................................

Ashwin had gone for a picnic with his family.
It was a hot afternoon. Ashwin spotted a big,
green mango tree at a distance.

"What a beautiful tree!" he said to his mother.

"It looks so cool and shady.
I wish I could be a mango tree."

His mother smiled and said,
"And what will you do if you were a mango tree?"

"I' ll give shade to people and animals.
I'll have fruits for everyone who visits me."

.............................................

One night, Ashwin was going back home with his mother.
He looked up and saw the big lights on the tall lamp-posts.

"How bright and lovely they are,"
he said to his mother. "I wish I Were a tall street light!"

"Hmm," said his mother with a smile.
"And what will you do if you were a street light?"

"I'll shine brightly and light up the road so no one will be afraid to be out in the dark."

................................

Ashwin was watching TV with his mother. He saw a big river flowing past forests and woods,
fields and villages.

"What a lot of water ! I wish I Were a big river!"
"Oh, my ! And what will
you do when you are a rive?"

"I'll flow along forests. I'll water the fields.
I'll be a home to fish and turtles.
I'll go to places where there's no water and make the people happy."

..........................

Ashwin's mother thought, "My little boy wants to be so many things to make people happy.

But he makes me happy simply
because he is Ashwin."

The Lion and the Mouse

A big, strong lion was sleeping in tge sun.
A little mouse was playing nearby.
It ran here and there and between the lion's paws.
The lion woke up and caught the mouse in his paw.
The little mouse said, "Let me go, please.
I shall help you some day."

The lion began to laugh, "I am so big and you are so small.
How can you help me?
But anyway,
I will let you go."

After a few days, the lion was caught in a net.
It roared and roared, but the net was too strong.
The little mouse heard the lion and ran to help him.
It nibbled at the ropes of the net.
The ropes began to snap and soon the lion was free.

"Thank You, little friend,"
said the lion.
                    ..............

Sleep is necessary

Early in the morning, you feel fresh. you are ready to study, play or work. you study a lot, play a lot, or work a lot during the day.
At night, you start feeling sleepy.
You close your eyes and go to sleep. After a good sleep,
you feel fresh again.
This happens every day.

What happens when people don't get
enough sleep?
They feel tired and sleepy the next day.
They cannot pay proper attention to what they are doing.

People need sleep to be in a good mood.
When we sleep, our body gets rest.
Sleep is also good for our brain.
It helps us to remember things better the next day

Young children bead about 10 to 11 hours of sleep.
Grown-up people need less sleep.
Some people need more sleep than others.
Have you seen animals sleep?
How do they sleep?

You may have seen cattle dozing, or cats and dogs sleeping.
Animals, too, need sleep.
They all have their special ways of taking a nap.

Cats, dogs and foxes curl up to go to sleep.
Horses can sleep standing!

Birds sleep standing!
perched on a branch or bar.
Monkeys, too, go to sleep on trees without fear of falling down!

Bats sleep hanging upside down!
Some water birds can sleep while swimming.

Elephants usually sleep standing, but sometimes lie on one side.
Luckily,
they don't need a bed!

Don't Give Up!

If you've tried and have not won,
Never stop for crying;
All's that's great and good is done
Just by patient trying.

Though young birds, in flying, fall,
Still their wings grow stronger;
And the next time they can keep
Up a little longer.

Though the sturdy oak has knows
Many a blast that bowed her,
She has risen again, and grown
Loftier and prouder.

If by easy work you beat,
Who the more will prize you?
Gaining victory from defeat -
That's the test that tries you!

Children are going to schools ...... All Children

Morning light spreads
over the earth.
Once again, the Sky bows his head in respect,
For children are going to school.

The Sun, after his morning dip in the river
dressed up in his golden muslin turban
Waits and smiles on one side of the road,
For children are going to school.

Through the green-topped branches,
Breezes sing their songs of blessings.
Fragrant flowers awaken the sleepy roads
with their melodies.

At the corner of the lane,
the peepal in his lush deep foliage
waves his hands
For children are going to school.

Angels of light have set out   ............
Every road is a-gleam.
At this hour,
every particle of the earth
throbs like a mother's heart.
Time, sitting on an old roof,
flies pigeons in the sky.
For children are going to school.
All children.
All children.

There Is the Key of the Kingdom

There is the key of the Kingdom.
In that Kingdom there is a city;
In that city there is a town;
In that town there is a street;
In that street there is a lane;
In that lane there is a yard;
In that Yard there is a house;
In that house there is a room;
In that room there is a bed;
On that bed there is a basket;
In that basket there are some flowers.

Flowers in the basket,
Basket on the bed,
Bed in the room,
Room in the house,
House in the Yard,
Yard in the lane,
Lane in the street,
Street in the town,
Town in the city,
City in the Kingdom,
And this is the key of the Kingdom. ðŸ”Ž

The Sugar-Plum Tree...'';'.,'';','''''';.,,,';,'?????????
The Sugar-Plum Tree

Have You ever heard of the Sugar-Plum Tree?
'This a marvel of great renown!
It blooms on the shore of the Lollipop Sea
             In the garden of Shut-Eye Town;

The Fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweet
(As those who have tasted it say)
That the good little children have only to eat
Of that fruit to be happy next day.

I'd Like to Be a Lighthouse

I'd like to be a lighthouse
All Scrubbed and Painted White.
I'd like to be a lighthouse
And stay awake all night

To Keep my eye on everything
     That sails my patch of sea;
I'd like to be a lighthouse
With the ships all watching me.

Curiosity

Tell me, tell me everything !
What makes it Winter
And then Spring ?
Which are the children
Butterflies ?
Why do people Keep
Winking their eyes ?
Where do birds sleep ?
Do bees like to sting ?
Tell me, tell me please, everything !

Tell me, tell me, I want to Know !
What makes leaves grow
In the shapes they grow ?
Why do goldfish
Keep chewing ? and rabbits
Warble their noses ?
Just from habits ?
Where does the wind,
When it goes away, go ?
Tell me ! Or don't even grown-ups Know ?

  A Pretty Game

The sun and the rain in fickle weather

Were Playing hide and seek together;

And each in turn would try to chase

The other from his hiding place.

At last they met to say,' Good-bye.'

And lo! A rainbow spanned the sky.

Wash day

Mr. Ocean takes in washing,
Every day the whole year through
And she uses so much bluing,
That it stains the water blue.
have seen the soap suds floating
When the waves were rough and high,
But I never have discovered
Where she hangs the clothes to dry.

Strawberries

Strawberries that in gardens grow
Are plump and juicy fine,
But sweeter far as wise men Know
Spring from the woodland vine.

No need for bowl or silver spoon,
Sugar or spice or cream,
Has the wild berry plucked in June
Beside the trickling stream.

What a Bird Thought, [  Daydreams ]

    What a Bird Thought

I lived first in a little house,
And lived there very well ;
The world to me was small and round
And made of pale-blue shell.

I lived next in a little nest,
Nor needed any other ;
I thought the world was made of straw,
And covered by my mother.

One day I fluttered from the nest,
To see what I could find.
I said, "The world is made of leaves ;
I have been very blind."

At last I flew beyond the tree,
And saw the sky so blue ;
Now, how the world is really made
I cannot tell - can You ?

Count your Garden

Count your garden by the flowers;
Never by the leaves that fall;

Count your days by golden hours;
Don't remember clouds at all.

Count the nights by stars, but shadows;
Count your life by smiles, not tears;

And with joy on every birthday,
Count your age by friends, not years.

Why English is so Hard..... [Story]

We'll begin with a box, and the
Plural is boxes;
But the plural of ox should be
oxen, not oxe.

You may find a lone mouse or a
Whole lot of mice,
But the plural of a house is houses,
not mice.

If the plural of man is
always called men,
Why shouldn't the plural of pan
be called pen ?

And I speak of a foot,
and you show me your feet,
But I give you a boot;
would a pair be called beet ?

That one may be that,
and three may be those,
Yet the plural of hat
would never be hose.

The masculine pronouns are he,
his and him,
But imagine the feminine she,
shin and shim !

So our English,
I think you will all agree,
Is the trickiest language
You ever did see.

On the Water

In our little boat to glide
On the water blue and wide,
While the sky is smooth and bright,
What could give us more delight ?

See the ripples, how they run,
Twinkling brightly in the sun,
While reflected we can see
Shadows of each hill and tree.

See the lilies, round and large,
Floating near the reedy marge,
Where the bulrush has its place
And the heavy water-mace.

See the great green dragonfly,
And the swallow skimming by.
See the fishes spring and gleam,
Ere they splash into the stream,

 See the bright kingfisher too
Dart a gleam of green and blue.
These are all around our boat
On the water whilst we float.

 Little Words

"Yes, you did, too." "I did not."
Thus by unkind little words,
Two fond friends were parted.

"I am sorry. " "So am I."
Thus the little quarrel ended,
Thus by loving little words two bonded
hearts were mended.

The Elf Singing

An Elf sat on a twig.
He was not very big.
He sang a little song,
He did not think it wrong;
But he was on a Wizard's ground,
Who hated all sweet sound.

Elf, Elf,
Take care of yourself,
He's coming behind you,
To seize you and bind you
And stifle your song.

The Wizard ! the Wizard !
He changes his shape
In crawling along.
An ugly old ape,
A poisonous lizard,

A spotted spider,
A wormy glider,
The Wizard ! the Wizard !
He's up on the bough;
He'll bite through your gizzard.
He's close to you now !

The Elf went on with his song.
It grew more clear and strong.
It lifted him into air.
He floated singing away,
With rainbows in his hair;

While the Wizard-worm from his creep
Made a sudden leap,
Fell down into a hole,
And, ere his magic word he could say,
Was eaten up by a Mole.

A Happy Song

Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap your hands.
Clap your hands together.

Tap, tap, tap, tap your feet.
Tap your feet together.

Walk, walk, walk, walk around.
Walk around together.

Jump, jump, jump, jump around.
Jump around together.

Nature

Nature is might,
Nature is strong,
Nature is beauty,
Nature is moody.

Nature is smart,
Nature is blue
Nature is green,
Nature is true.

Nature is you,
Nature is me,
Nature will forever be free.

Rain

The rain is falling all around
It falls on the field and tree.
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.

Magic Seed

I found a tiny little seed
And planted it outside.
Almost at once it started
To grow up, tall and wide.

It sprouted leaves from everywhere,
And soon became quite big.
I'm not sure what it is yet ---
Apples, peas or figs?

No matter how it turns out,
I know that it will be
My own completely special
Something-or-other-tree !!!!

Be Quick

Speak ! Speak !
What speak?

Vegetables name, be quick !
Tomato, be quick !

Quack, quack, says the duck,

And what cuckoos say,

you know !!!!!!!

Toto - The Hen

Rahish had a pet.
She was a black hen.
Her name was Toto.

Toto lived in a coop.
Toto was a very smart hen.

Rahish used to give food to her everyday and
played with her.

They became good friends.
When Toto laid an egg,

She used to make a 'special'
sound "Kok - Kok - Kok".

Then Rahish came out and fed Toto and took
the egg for him.

One night Rahish was sleeping in the bed.

He heard the special sound of Toto "Kok- Kok- Kok".
Rahish came out from the house.

Toto ran to Rahish and pecked his leg.
Rahish looked around to see what happened.

He smelt something burning.
"Oh ! My God ! The coop is on fire", he shouted. The coop was in a mess.

Rahish drink to the tap of water and took the pipe.
Then he showered the water and put the fire.

Then, Rahish bent and picked up Toto.
"You smart hen my dear friend !

You have saved my farm", said Rahish.
Toto happily replied to Rahish, "Kok....
Kok... .Kok...

Favorite Things

I've written down a list
Of all my favorite things;
Rainbows and fairy
Cakes,

And butterfly wings.
A journey on a train
A visit from a friend
Candy floss and ice- cream
The list might never end !!!!

The Helpful Girl

Once there lived a girl, Reema.
She was very, very helpful.

When she went to school,
She helped everyone in the class.

When she came back home,
She helped her mother and father.

When she went to the playground,
She picked up small stones and thorns.

When she went for a picnic,
She took care of her friends,

When she went to a shop,
She selected things carefully.
She made greeting cards for her friends,

And gave them on their birthdays.
She was the best girl in our school.

We are opposites

We are opposites,
And I'll tell you more !
I say after,
And you say before.

I come in,
And you go out,
We are opposites,
Let's give a shout !

I look up,
And you look down,
I like to walk,
You run to town.

I am small,
As smaller can be,
You are big,
Much bigger than me.

I say stop,
And you say go,
We are opposites,
I told you so,

We are opposites,
It's like I said before,
Think on your own,
If you want any more.

I think it's hot,
You think it's cold,
I say it's new,
You say it's old.

Shyam started in his horse cart to go to the fair.
On the way, Madhu and Meera said,
"Can we come?"
"Oh, yes !" said Shyam.

The dog saw them.
He asked ,"Can I came?"
"Oh, yes !" said Shyam.

They were going through the fields.
The peacock saw them and asked,
"Can I come to the fair?"
"Oh, yes!" said Shyam.

When they were crossing the river.
The frog asked, "Can I come to the fair?"
"Oh, yes !" said all of them.
Shyam said, "Come and sit near me."

They saw the fair from a distance.
The peacock was so happy, it
spread it's feathers and started
dancing. But one feather touched
the dog's ear. He sprang up and
barked loudly.

Madhu was frightened. Meera
fell on the frog.
The frog fell on the horse.
The horse was so frightened that
her ran helter  - skelter.

Shyam fell off. Then Madhu and
Meera also fell off. One by one all of
them fell off.
The horse kept running and stopped when it reached
near the fair.

Shyam, Madhu, Meera, the dog, the peacock and
the frog were all
panting when they reached.
Till then the horse became quiet
and
relaxed. In the evening they returned happily in the horse cart.

Buying Things

Soham and Reva are going to a shop with heir parents.
What a big shop!
Mother wanted to buy some things.
Father wanted to buy some things.

"How about you, children?
Do you want to buy
something on your own?
Here's some money.
You can use it to buy anything you like."

"Shall we buy chocolates?"
"Shall we buy crayons?"
"Shall we buy a toy?"
"Please help us, mother.

What should we buy?"
"Well, you can buy something that will
finish up quickly, or, you can buy something
that will last long. You can buy something
made by others, or you can buy things and
make something yourself."

"That's a good idea. Let's buy things and
make new things with them."
Soham and Reva picked up some
things. They went to the counter.
"We want to buy this paper, glue and
colour. How much is it?"

"Ninety - five rupees in all."
"Here's the money. A hundred rupees."
'Thank you. I must give you five rupees
back. Here it is."
"That's right. Thank you."

The Egg

Baby Parrot lived in a nest with Mummy
and a big white egg.
"I' m going to find some food," said
Mummy one day.

"You must look after the egg until I RETURN."
Baby Parrot watched the egg for a very
long time. she moved it around to make
sure it was comfortable. She wrapped her
Wings around it to make sure it was warm.
"I' m very good at looking after eggs, " She thought.

Just then. she heard the monkeys
playing in the tress. Baby Parrot tried to
call like a monkey, too. She peered over the
edge of the nest and laughed at their games.

Suddenly Baby Parrot remembered the egg.
She looked around and gulped. It was
broken. Mummy would be angry!
But when
Mummy returned, she wasn't angry at all

"Don't worry," Mummy said, as a little
parrot popped out of the broken eggshell.
"The egg has hatched while I was away.
Now you've got a new baby sister to play with!"

This - That

This is near me
And that is far
This is my finger
And that is the star.
This is my spoon
And that is the moon
This is my bun
And that is the sun
When something is near
We say this
When something is far
We point out that.

The Sun

I told the sun that I was glad,
I'm sure I don't know why;
Somehow the pleasant way he had
Of shining in the sky,
Just put a notion in my head
That wouldn't it be fun.
If, walking on the hill, I said
"I 'm happy ," to the sun.

Tommy is Lost

Once there was a boy.
His name was Joy.
Joy had a dog. The dog's name was Tommy.
Joy liked Tommy very much.

Joy said, "Come. Tommy, let's go for a walk."
"It is very hot."
"We will go to the pond."
Joy and Tommy began to walk. The pond was inside a forest.

Suddenly, Tommy saw a fox passing by.
Tommy ran after the fox.
"Stop, Tommy ! Stop !" Shouted Joy.
But Tommy did not stop.

Joy ran after Tommy, but he
could not catch Tommy.
"Oh. Tommy is lost!" cried Joy.
Joy sat on a stone and sobbed.

"Tommy's gone and I'm lost !
What will  I do?" he cried,
Then Joy saw Tommy coming back soon.
Joy hugged Tommy and cried in joy.

We hope that the post will receive a warm welcome from students and parents.
