The Little Mermaid
Deep inside the ocean, there lived the king with his five beautiful mermaid daughters. The most beautiful among them was Carolina, the youngest of all. She had long and curly golden hairs, green eyes and a very melodious voice. As mermaids were not allowed to go to the sea shore until they complete their fifteen years of age, Carolina was very excited to attain sixteen years of age. She had heard many stories of humans from her sisters and wanted to see humans. Finally, the day came when she stepped into her sixteenth year. There were celebrations in the ocean; she got blessings from the king, the queen and her four elder sisters.
She was also taken to the surface of the water to experience the outside world. Carolina was very happy to feel the cool breeze, the greenery around and the open blue sky. There she saw a tall handsome prince on a huge ship. Although Carolina's sisters asked her to jump into the water before anyone could see them, she went closer to the ship to have better view of the prince, Carolina fell in love with the prince. Soon after sunset it grew darker and the ship was illuminated with colorful lights. At night, strong wind started blowing and the ship was tossed by the violent waves. The prince fell into the huge waves. Carolina dived and saved the prince from drowning. She took him to a sandy shore where there was a house nearby She pulled the prince along to the house and ranged the bell at the gate and hid herself behind a wall. There came three beautiful young ladies from inside and saw the unconscious prince lying at the gate. When he came back to his senses and saw the ladies, he thanked them for saving his life. Carolina went back to the ocean and remained quiet and sad thereafter thinking about the prince. Her mother took her to a witch for the treatment.
The witch changed her to a human through a painful process and too away her lovely voice in return by giving her a syrup. The witch also warned Carolina that in future if the prince likes any other lady and marries her, Carolina's body would dissolve in the foam of the sea. She took the syrup and went to the shore. At night she gulped the syrup and fell unconscious. Next morning, she found herself inside a ship. When she looked around, she saw the prince before her. He asked, "Who are you ?" But she could not reply as the witch had already taken away her voice. The prince took her to his palace and gave her very beautiful drees to wear. He loved spending time with her and considered her a very good friend. One day, while sitting at the sea shore, the prince told Carolina, pointing at the house where she once left him with three ladies, that he was in love with one of the ladies. Soon, their wedding was announced and the prince decided to celebrate his wedding feast on the royal ship. Though Carolina, end was near, she was smiling and dancing hiding all her pain. In the evening, while standing at the deck, she sawn her four elder sisters coming out of water. Their hair was cut as they all exchanged their hair for the dagger that could save Carolina. They gave the dagger to Carolina and went away telling her to stab the prince with it.
And when she would drop prince's blood on her limbs, she would get her tail back. Carolina threw the dagger into the water and went to the prince's room to have his last glimpse. She kissed his forehead gently and returned to the deck. Just when she was about to jump into the sea, three fairies came and took Carolina, along saying that they take good hearted girls to their world.

The King's Choice
THERE was once a lion who was king of the forest. He was big and strong and very fierce. All the other animals in the forest called him king. They brought him gifts from every corner of the forest. But the more the lion had, the more he wanted. 'A king must have a court, ' he said to himself one day. He called a fox to his side. " You are known to be a wise and clever creature, fox," said the lion. "I want you to be my adviser."
"Thank you, your Majesty," said the fox, bowing low. The lion next called a leopard to his side. 'Yu are known to be watchful and swift of foot, leopard. I want you to be my bodyguard." "Thank you , your Majesty," said the leopard, bowing low. The lion then called a vulture to his side. "You are a bird, vulture , and can fly high. You are to be my messenger." "Thank you, your Majesty. "said the vulture, bowing low. The fox, the vulture and the leopard took an oath of loyalty to the king. The king promised to give them food and protection. For some time all went well in the court of the lion king. The three courtiers never opposed the king. His wishes were law. Whenever he roared, they stood in awe. Whenever he took a walk, they followed him.
When the lion king went hunting, they found the animals for him to kill. And after he had his meal, he left the remains for them. So they always had enough to eat.
One day the vulture came back from a flight. "Your Majesty, have you ever eaten a camel ?" he asked. "It is very tasty. I ate it once in the desert." The lion had never seen a camel, but he liked the idea of trying camel's meat. "Bu where can we get a camel ?" he asked. "There is a desert some miles away." said the vulture. "I was flying over it when I saw a lone camel not for away. It looked big and fat." The lion looked at his other advisers. They were wise and experienced. He wanted their opining. Now the fox and the leopard did not know the desert. But they did not want the vulture to seem wiser than them. So they said, since it was the vulture's idea, he should lead the way.
Early next morning the lion and his court started off on the camel hunt. They reached the edge of the desert easily. But after they left the shelter of the forest, the day became very hot. The sun shone down with fire - hot rays. High up in the cooler air the vulture flew.
"Hurry along ." he called "the camel is not far off."
But the lion could not hurry any more. The hot sand had burned his paws. He could go no farther. "Stop!" he shouted to the others. "Let us go back to the forest. I do not care to try camel meat." The lion king's advisers were frightened. The forest was far behind them and they did not know how to get the lion back home. The leopard wanted to run away. The vulture wanted to watch and wait and eat the lion later on. But the clever fox thought of a plan, Off into the desert he ran saying , "I will bring some help." After running for some time, the fox found the camel. The camel was indeed surprised to see him. "Hurry up, friend camel," said the fox. "Our king wants you at once ."
"Your king ?" said the camel. "Who is that ? I do not know any king. I only know my master, for whom I carry goods across the desert." "Our king, the lion, has killed your master," said the fox. "Now you are free, and the lion has invited you to live at his court. Come along. The came followed the fox.
When the fox and the camel reached the lion's camp, the vulture and the leopard were surprised. Even the lion looked pleased, in spite of his burned paws. The camel was presented to the king. He agreed to serve the lion in return for a home at his court. "Get on the camel's back, your Majesty," said the fox. "We will return home."
The lion at once jumped on to the camel's back. His courtiers. the fox and the leopard jumped up behind him. And with the vulture flying ahead as a guide, they set off on the long journey back to the forest. When the travelers reached the forest, they were all tired and hungry. The fox, the leopard and the vulture looked at the camel. Then they looked at each other and smiled hungry smiles.
They had brought the camel for the king's dinner. Now it was time for the feast. The lion king knew what his courtiers were thinking. He called the camel to him. 'Friend camel, " he said, "I have to thank you for saving my life. You are welcome to live at my court as long as you like. I promise you my protection." The lion's courtiers were shocked. Had they not risked their lives so that he could try camel meat ? And the king wanted to let the camel live !
The courtiers were not pleased with his decision. Yet they could do nothing. Now the lion's paws were so badly burnt that he could not go hunting . But that did not keep him from growing very hungry indeed.
"Fox! Leopard ! Vulture1" he shouted.
"Don't you see that I am ill and hungry ? Go and get me some food !"
The courtiers had to obey the king. So out they went. But they did not go far. They sat down in a safe place and discussed what they could do. "I know," said the fox after a while, "We shall make the camel ask to be eaten."
He told the others of his plan. They all agreed, so back they went to the king. First the vulture stepped forward. "Your Majesty, " he said, bowing low, "we have found no food. But we cannot let Your Majesty suffer. I am a poor creature. Eat me." The fox pushed the vulture aside, "I have more eat on me," he cried. 'Eat me, your Majesty." Now the leopard rushed forward. 'I am not much good," he cried. "But I could make a meal for the king." The camel listened to all these offers. He must do as much, he thought.
"Your Majesty," he said. "I too am willing to give my life for you. Please eat me instead of these old friends of yours who will be more useful than I am." This was what the fox, the leopard and the vulture were waiting for. They prepared to jump at the camel. But the lion stopped them. "You are all good and loyal subjects," he said. 'My heart is touched by your offers. I accept them all. I shall eat you in the order in which you offered yourselves." The vulture, the fox and the leopard were shocked.
Away flew the vulture. Away ran the fox and the leopard. They were never seen in the forest again. The lion laughed to see them go. Then he turned to the camel and said, "You have been loyal and good . You shall be my friends as long as we are alive."
The camel was happy and grateful. The lion thought to himself, 'To be king is good. But to be kind is better.'

King Midas and the Golden Touch
King Midas
Once there lived a king whose name was Midas. He was very greedy and wanted to become the richest man on earth and hoard plenty of gold. One day a magician came to his court, and changed a plate of brass into gold by his magic. Midas was amused to see this. He ordered the magician to make him learn the trick of changing things into gold. The magician smiled at him and tapped the king's hand chanting some secret mantra. The magician then said, "My God! Going forward anything you will touch will change into gold." In order to verify this, the king touched a flowerpot kept in his court. To his astonishment the flowerpot changed to gold immediately. King Midas was very happy and thought that his dream of becoming the richest man would come true now. The magician left the court with a mysterious smile. Sooner the magician left, King Midas started touching almost everything in his court and converting them into gold. By the afternoon, when he got tired and hungry, he went to have his food. But the moment he picked anything to eat, it changes into gold. He repented and cried, :Alas ! What is this ? How would I eat anything ?"
With great distress, he went to his royal bedroom where his little sweet daughter was raguly waiting for him. She rushed to kiss his father. As the king put his hands on her hand, she also changed to gold. King Midas could not bear this and started crying and said, "Oh God ! Please release me from this curse. I don't need any gold. Please make my daughter normal" He immediately sent his men to bring the magician back to his court. When the magician came, king Midas begged him to change his daughter back to normal. The magician again took the king's hand and chanted some new mantras. Then, he waved his wand over his hand and everything that was touched by the king and got converted to gold, changed back to their normal state. King Midas was very happy to see her daughter normal and loved her a lot. He now understood the importance of everything around him and believed that gold alone cannot give happiness. He got released from the golden touch. He became a very loving and caring king for his subjects. Thereafter, the well being and happiness of his people had become the most important thing for him.

It was a cold winter night and it was snowing heavily outside. While the sisters were enjoying hot soup with their mother, someone knocked the door. Although the sisters were stopping their mother from opening the door, she went to open it thinking that there could be some needy person outside While the sister were enjoying hot soup with their mother, someone knocked the door. Although the sisters were stopping their mother from opening the door, she went to open it thinking that there could be some needy person outside. As she opened the door the sisters screamed a loud seeing a big brown bear at the door covered with snow. The bear asked for shelter for a night and the mother allowed him to enter the cottage. The mother made the bear sit near the fireplace and asked the girls to serve him a big bowl of hot soup. The sisters were also not afraid of him anymore. They brought broom to swipe off snow flakes from his body. They all had good time in the night. In the morning, the bear thanked them and went off into the forest. When the night came, the sisters started missing the bear.
They heard a knock at the door. When they rushed to open the door, they were glad to see the bear with flowers and a big fish. The mother prepared the fish for the dinner and they all enjoyed it. In this way, the bear started coming to their cottage every night with some goodies for the family. Winter was over and summer came. One morning, while leaving for the forest, he hugged the sisters and said he will not be able to come now as summer has started and he need to protect his treasure from the dwarf who sleeps all through the winter and wakes up in summer. One day the sisters went to the forest to bring berries. While they were picking juicy berries. they heard someone shouting for help. When they followed the voice, they saw a dwarf with a long beard whose end got stuck in a crack of the tree. They tried pulling it out , but failed to do so. As such, snow White took out the scissors from her pocket and cut the end of the beard. The dwarf shouted at her for cutting his beard and went away picking his bag of gold. Few days later, the sisters again went to the forest for fishing. They again found the same dwarf shouting for help as his beard got stuck in the fishing line and a huge fish got trapped in the hoop of the fishing line. The fish was pulling the dwarf inside the water. So, Snow White instantly cut the end of his beard again with her scissors. The dwarf again screamed at her and went away picking his bag of pearls.
Few days later, they again went to the forest to collect woods. They saw that the dwarf was being pulled by a huge eagle and was crying for help. They pulled him down holding his legs, but the eagle was not leaving the dwarf. Finally, the eagle released the dwarf and he fell down on the ground. He again scolded the girls and went away picking his bag of precious gems. One day while searching for the bear, the sisters saw the same dwarf dancing around his treasure. The dwarf took out his dagger and shouted at the girls, thinking that they came to steal his treasure. Just then, the big brown bear came and killed the dwarf at once. The bear started trembling and changed into a handsome prince. He told the sisters that he became bear by the spell of that wicked dwarf only.
He, then, took the sisters back to their cottage. Later on, he took both the sisters along with their mother to his kingdom, where he married snow White and his brother married Rose Red. They lived happily ever after.

Peter Pan
Wendy, John, and Michael Darling lived with their parents in London. One night, Wendy woke up to have a glass of water and was surprised to see a boy sitting on the floor crying. "Who are you and why are you sitting on the floor and crying ?" asked Wendy. "My name is Peter Pan. I live in Neverland. I'm crying because my shadow keeps running away from me, " replied the boy. "Don't worry , I Can fix that, ' said Wendy. She took out a needle and thread and sewed Peter's shadow to his shoes. Peter was thrilled. "Fly with me and my fairy Tinker Bell to Neverland. You can take care of all of us, " said Peter Pan. "I Can't fly, " said Wendy. "That is not a problem. I Can teach you to fly," said Peter Pan. "Let me go and wake my brother John and Michael. We all would learn to fly and go to Neverland together. " The children first learnt to fly around the room and soon, they flew out of the window. Wendy, John, and Michael flew behind Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, following the golden arrows that pointed the way to Nederland. "The lost boys live with me and Tinker Bell, the , mermaids live in the lagoon and the Indians live over there, ' said Peter Pan. "Captain Hook is the captain of the Pirates, " he said. 'Pirates ?" cried Wendy, John, and Michael, all in the same breath.
Wendy was scared, but Michael and John wanted to see the pirates. "Hook is a mean pirate. But he's afraid of the crocodile, which bit off Hook's hand. He liked the taste very much and now keeps following him wherever he goes. Hook is lucky because the crocodile once swallowed a clock and it goes ' tick - tock' and warns Hook when the crocodile is nearby, ' said Peter Pan. Peter, Wendy, John and Michael went into Peter's house under the woods. It had a hidden door in an old tree stump. The lost boys were very happy to see Wendy. "Will you be our mother ?" they asked Wendy. "I 'm not old enough to be your mother but I can try, " said Wendy. Wendy started taking care of the boys, and in this way, the children spent a very pleasant time together in the house under the woods. One day, Peter Pan and the children decided to explore the mermaids' lagoon. Suddenly Peter Shouted, "Pirates ! Quick, everyone hide ! " Peter, Wendy and the chiders hid themselves. Peter and Wendy could see that the pirates had tired up Tiger Lily, the Indian Princess, on a rock in the lagoon. Peter said, "Tiger Lily would drown when the tide comes in. We have to save her immediately !" Peter could mimic Captain Hook's voice, so he shouted in a voice just Captain Hook's 'Set her free at once !" The pirates shouted back, "But, Captain, you ordered us to being her here!" "And now I'm telling you to let her go !' Peter bellowed in Hook's voice. "Aye, aye, Captain, " the pirates said, and set Tiger Lily free. She quickly swam to the Indian camp. When the pirates told Captain Cook about what had happened, he understood that peter had tricked them.
He was Furious. That night, when Wendy was telling the boys the story of three children who had left home to go to Neverland, she and her brothers suddenly became very homesick. They wanted to fly home the next morning. "You may come along with us," Wendy told the lost boys. I'm sure our mother and father will adopt you." Wendy also invited Peter and Tinker Bell to come home with them, but Peter didn't want to live with grown -ups who would tell him what to do. Peter was unhappy that his friends were leaving but he wanted to make sure that his friends reached home safely. So, he asked Tinker Bell to escort them on the trip. The next morning, as soon as Tinker Bell and the children left the house under the woods, Captain Hook's pirates captured them and marched them towards the pirate's ship. Tinker Bell managed to escape and rushed back to tell Peter Pan all that happened. Peter Pan was very upset. He and Tinker bell flew off to save Wendy and the boys. On the pirate's ship, Captain Hook asked, "Who wants to become a pirate ?" All the boys shook their heads. " Then we will make them walk the plank !" Hook thundered. Suddenly, they heard the "Tick, Tock " of the crocodile.
Captain Hook became afraid. But it was not the crocodile; it was Peter Pan who was making that sound. He flew on to the deck and sliced at Hook with his own sword until they came close to the edge of the ship. Peter sprang with his sword. Hook was so close to the edge that he fell into the sea. The crocodile was waiting for him. When Peter was sure that Hook was dead, he and Tinker Bell set off with Wendy and the boys once again. Wendy's parents were very pleased and resliced to see their children and hugged them. They even agreed to adopt the lost boys. They invited Peter Pan to live with them. But Peter refused saying, " I 'm happy at Neverland. I will never have to grow up there !" 'Goodbye, Peter. We'll miss you, " said everyone. Peter Pan and Tinker Bell waved to them and flew back home to Neverland.
Jack and the Beanstalk
Long ago, there lived a boy named Jack with his poor mother in a small hut. The mother had no source of income and so they were leading a miserable life. They had a cow which his mother loved very much. One day, she told Jack, "Now, it is very difficult to survive as we don't have a single grain in the house. Go and sell the cow and with that money we shall meet our expenses. ' Having said so, she began to cry in pain. Jack agreed to do so. Next morning, he left for the market along with the cow. On his way to the market, he met a man who asked him, 'Do you want to sell this cow ?" Jack replied, "Yes, I do . How much will you pay ?" The man said, "I will give you five magical seeds of beans which will make you rich."
Jack happily gave the cow in exchange f the seeds. Then, he returned home and showed his mother the five seeds of beans and said, "One my way to the market, I met a man who bought our cow for these magical seeds. These seeds will make us rich ." Seeing the seeds, his mother got furious and threw them out through the window in anger. That night, they slept hungry. Next day, when Jack got up early in the morning, he was surprised to see that the magical beans had grown into a long creeper overnight. The creeper was so long that its top end was not visible. Jack came out of the house and started climbing the creeper. The branches were strong enough to hold Jack, Soon, he reached the top. There he saw a road leading to a mysterious palace. When he went to the palace gate and called out for someone, a huge woman opened the gate. She said to Jack, 'Come in, but beware of my husband. He is a giant and eats human beings. " Hearing this, Jack began to tremble with fear. But the lady told him to stay relaxed as her husband was not at home. She took Jack to the kitchen and gave him good food to eat. Jack was very hungry, so he ate to his heart's content. Suddenly, the room started shaking .
The lady told Jack that her husband has arrived. So, Jack immediately rushed to the almirah and hid himself behind it. As the giant entered the house, he said, "I can smell a human here. If I find him, I will eat him." His wife smiled affectionately and said, "I have prepared special meat for you. May be, it is smelling like a human being. " Jack could see the huge giant from behind the almirah. After the meal, he asked his wife to bring his dear hen. When she brought her, he ordered the hen to lay golden eggs, She laid the golden eggs which the giant put in his pocket and slept. Then, Jack came out and caught hold of the hen. He rushed out with the hen and went straight down to his hut by the creeper. Seeing Jack back and alright, his mother was happy. He showed her the hen and said, "This hen lays golden eggs." As his mother couldn't believe it, Jack asked the hen to lay golden eggs. So did the hen. Now, the hen used to lay golden eggs whenever she was ordered to do so. Thus, both Jack and his mother began to live happily. After sometime, Jack climbed up the creeper again and reached the giant's palace. When he knocked at the door, the same lady opened the door. She could not recognize Jack as he was in good clothes. She again took Jack to the kitchen and also warned him of her husband. This time, the giant suddenly appeared.
Jack started trembling with fear. The wife said, "Go and hide in the basket." Jack immediately hid in the basket. The giant said. "Today again I could smell the same human flesh. " But the wife said, 'I have made a special tasty soup for you that smell like that. Then, she served the hot soup to the giant. After having the soup, the giant asked his wife to bring his harp. When she brought the harp, the devil ordered it to sing a sweet melody. The harp started singing at once. Jack wished to own the harp. When the giant was asleep, Jack picked up the harp and rushed out. As the harp cried for help, the giant woke up. He ran after Jack, shouting in anger, "Stop! I will kill you. You must have stolen my hen too." The giant reached the creeper of the bean following Jack. Jack was descending fast followed by the giant. Suddenly, the stem started cracking due to giant's heavy weight. So, as soon as Jack reached the ground, he cut the stem with his axe. The stem fell down on to the ground along the giant. He got buried into the ground and was never seen again. Thereafter, Jack and his mother lived happily forever.
The Little Engine
A small steam engine was given the task of pulling a train of cars. His wheels chugged along the iron tracks and puffed clouds of steam. After some time, the engine halted before a huge hill. "Oh ! Now I have to climb this steep hill," gasped the tired engine. He gathered his strength, blew the whistle, and rolled his wheels, but he failed to pull the train of cars. He looked around him and saw another steam engine standing next to him, "Please help me pull the train over the hill, " he said. "Don't you see I have wagons full of coal to pull ?
" snapped the other engine. Suddenly he spotted a big engine rolling into the sidetracks. Surprisingly, it did not go past him, but halted next to him. "What happened ?" enquired the engine. When the little engine explained his problem, the new engine went and stood behind the train. Together they sang. "We can, we shall, "and slowly went up the hill. The little engine thanked the new engine and went home whistling merrily.

Pinocchio
Once there lived a carpenter whose name was Geppetto. He lived all alone and so decided to make a wooden puppet which could give him a company. He started making the puppet. The very moment the puppet was made, it became alive and started dancing. He named him Pinocchio. He also purchased clothes and notebooks for him as he planned to bring him up as his own son. Next morning Geppetto dressed up Pinocchio in new clothes and took him to the nearby school to get him admitted there. The very next morning , Pinocchio got ready to go to school. He picked up the new notebook and left for his school. On his way to school, he found five gold coins Which he planned to give to his poor father, While walking along the edge of the woods, he saw an injured fox and a blind cat going together. Seeing Pinocchio passing by, the injured fox requested him to help them to reach their hut inside the woods. Kind Pinocchio soon agreed to help them. He said innocently, 'Let me first give these five gold coins to my father and I Will come back soon to take you both to the hut."
When the greedy cat and the clever fox came to know that he had five gold coins, they planned to steal those coins from him. The fox said, 'There is a magical field called the Field of Miracles inside the dense forest. If you would sow one gold coin there, you will find a tree next morning laden with thousands of gold coins. " While Pinocchio was anxiously heading towards that magical field, two scary figures came before him to rob those gold coins. They were none other than the cat and the fox.
Pinocchio got afraid and tried running away towards his home, but his heel was caught in a trap. He cried aloud for help. Suddenly, a beautiful fairy appeared before him and freed him from the trap, instructing him to take the gold coins to his father. Being afraid, Pinocchio lied the fairy that he did not has those gold coins. To teach him a lesson, the fairy turned his nose longer by her magic. As such, he was unable to move his neck. Pinocchio soon realized his mistake and told the truth that he had those gold coins. The kind fairy turned his nose back to normal. Then, the fairy clapped three times and disappeared. The moment she disappeared, HUGE PIGEON APPEARED BEFORE Pinocchio and said, 'Get on to my back fast. Your father has made a boat to sail in the wild sea. We need to be there before it is too late. " Pinocchio quickly jumped on the pigeon's back and flew towards the sea. By the time they reached there, Geppetto has already entered in the angry sea.
Soon his boat was turned over by the huge waves. Seeing his father drowning, Pinocchio also jumped into the sea to save him. As his father was struggling with the waves, a shark came and swallowed Geppetto. Seeing his father being swallowed by the shark, Pinocchio also jumped into the shark's mouth. Sindbad
Once there lived a great voyager in Baghdad, Sindbad, He was born in a royal family and his father had left plenty of gold and treasures for him. He was very irresponsible and spent most of his wealth in prompt and shows. Soon he realized that he will have earn some wealth for his old age. So, he sold off all his assets and joined a band of merchants and set off on a trading ship to try his luck. They travelled to many islands to do business. One day, they saw a strange island with no greenery on it. Some went ashore to explore while others set fire to cook food. Suddenly, they felt a violent quaver. Their friends on the ship cried out that it was not an island, but a sleeping whale. There was chaos and everyone rushed to save their life. Sindbad managed to get hold of a log and drifted to another island where some fishermen took him to king Miraged. When the king came to know about his adventurous voyages, he gave him a royal treatment.
One day while he was walking along the seashore, he saw a ship in the harbor from which boxes were being unloaded. He was amused to see his name on some of the boxes. He introduced himself to the captain and took charge of the boxes. He took rich gifts for King Miraged and told him about his intention to sail back to his homeland. Then, he bid goodbye to the king and sailed back his homeland. During his second voyage, he was left behind in an isolated island as he kept sleeping under a shady tree. He came across a huge bright object which was smooth as well as hard. He went close to that object to examine it, and suddenly, the sky grew dark. When he turned around, he found it was the giant 'roc' bird and the strange object he was examining was its egg.
Sindbad quietly and quickly tied himself to one of the legs of the bird. He remained tied there for the whole night while the bird was sitting on its egg. The bird flew off the next morning carrying Sindbad along and landed in a valley. He quickly untied himself and discovered that he landed in a deadly valley with steep sharp sides. He got surprised when he saw huge diamonds everywhere and huge pieces of meat rolling down the slopes. Soon he realized that he was in a valley of diamonds where the traders roll down meat pieces to get diamonds with help of eagles. As such Sindbad tied himself to a huge piece of meat and escaped filling his pockets with plenty of huge diamonds.. He then, returned home.
When he again felt bored, he with his friends sailed to a distant island for business. While exploring the island, they saw a pile of human bones here and there. Suddenly, an ugly giant came there who had only one eye in the Centre of forehead with sharp teeth and long pointed nails, To their horror, he picked one of them and ate him up. Sindbad and others soon collected woods and made rafts. Next morning, in spite being chased by a group of giants, they managed to sail away and escape. Finally, they all reached their homeland. After few days, he sailed again with other merchants. One day a violent hurricane broke down the ship into pieces. Some of them were washed away to an island. Sindbad walked for many days before he reached a beach. He was happy to see people on that beach who were speaking Arabic. He was taken to the King of that place. The king was very impressed by his adventurous voyages and treated him well.
Sindbad observed that people of that place do not use saddle and rode horse bare back. He started the business of making beautiful saddles which flourished a lot. He also made a very beautiful saddle decorated with diamonds and precious stones and gifted it to the king. The king found him a suitable groom for his daughter and he married her to Sindbad. He settled there and lived a very comfortable and wealthy life.
Few months later, his wife fell ill and died. As a custom of that place, he was also buried with his dead wife. Seven loaves of bread and a jug of water were kept in the grave for him. Soon those loaves of bread and water finished and he started starving. Then, one day a dead man and his wife were lowered in the pit. He killed the wife by hitting her on head and took over bread loaves and water for his survival. On inspecting the cave, he discovered a way out which opens to a beach. He collected all the jewels and valuables buried with the dead and went to the beach. Soon he managed to stop a trading ship passing by.
He boarded the ship with all the jewels and valuables and traded with them at several islands where the ship stopped. He became richer as never before. He reached back to Baghdad after a month and decided not to go on any voyaged in Future.

She jumped to her feet, and ran after the rabbit. She saw it go down a rabbit hole. Alice thought, 'Should I follow it down the hole ? I have never seen a rabbit with a watch, maybe I should see where it is going." So, Alice went down the hole, without thinking about how she would return. Down and down SHE FELL, AND AT LAST LANDED UPON A Heap of leaves. When she got up she saw a golden key on the table. After failing to open any of the doors with the key, she returned to the table and this time found a bottle of juice, on which was written - DRINK ME. She drank the tasty juice slowly.

In the garden, she was amazed at the giant size of the flowers and continued to walk through the woods. In the woods, She met the rabbit again. Mistaking the girl for his maid, the rabbit commanded her, " Bring me my gloves." Obeying him, she went inside again in search of the gloves. Once inside , her eyes fell on a new bottle, She drank the juice and within seconds she grew huge. Further, she found a little cake, after eating which, she was small again.
After leaving the rabbit's house she went into the woods and came across a wise caterpillar. " One side makes you big, the other side of the mushroom makes you small, " he said to Alice before slithering away. Alice ate a piece of the mushroom. "Thank goodness, I'm growing! " she cried, "But which way do I go?" Walking further, she met a Cheshire cat who helped her to find her way through the woods. "That path leads to the Mad Hatter," he said. "I'll see you later at the Queen's croquet game." And then, he slowly disappeared before her astonished eyes till all that remained was his smile in the air.
Alice arrived at the Mad Tea Party where she met the noisiest people she had ever come across in the wonderland. She met the Mad Hatter who said, "You may stay if you answer my riddle." "Play with me !" ordered the Queen. "And let me win or I'll send you to prison!" The game was interrupted by the appearance of the Cheshire cat which made the Queen very angry. Alice was afraid of going to the prison, so she lost the game to the queen. Soon the kind - hearted Alice came to know how the Knave of Hearts had been wrongly held responsible for stealing from the Queen's Palace. The girl bravely told the queen, "I apologies for my behavior, O Queen, but I don't believe the Knave of Hearts is a thief." Suddenly, Alice realized she was getting all bigger in size.
The Queen felt both angry and humiliated because it was the first time someone had spoken against of her. The Queen ordered her soldiers to punish Alice, "I command you to poke this girl with your weapons". The cards began to poke poor Alice with their weapons. Alice ran from the palace to the garden. As her legs were taller she was able to run fast, but soon the soldiers started catching up. She wanted to run back to her normal life, where she could feel secure with her family. Just as the card - soldiers were about to catch Alice, she woke up from her sleep and realized it was just a fantastic dream. She saw her sister sitting beside her and smiled to herself, feeling happy to be back safe in her own world. 'I just had a strange dream," said Alice. She told her sister about the White Rabbit, the mad tea party, the Queen of Hearts and the trial. Her sister gently reminded her that it was time to go home. The frog came out of the pond and said, "O princess, why are you crying?" Still crying the princess replied, "My golden ball, which is very precious to me, has fallen into the pond and disappeared." The frog said, "Don't worry , princess. I can get your golden ball for you . But in return you will have to take me with you to your palace and let me live with you .

Let him get the ball for me." thought the princess. so she said to the frog, 'If you bring me my ball, I will see what I can do." I never thought that he would follow me here." The frog knocked at the door again. Then the king said to the princess, "Since you have given your word, you must keep it.
Let him in." The princess went to the door and let the frog inside. The frog hopped to the princess' chair and said," Please lift me upon the chair and let me sit next to you." "Since you let me eat from your plate and sleep on your bed for three nights, I am free of the curse now, " said the prince smiling at the princess. The Pied Piper of Hamelin
Once upon a time, on the banks of a big river in Germany, was a town called Hamelin. It was a very rich town and the people were very happy. Then, one day, something strange happened. The town was filled with rats. Wherever you would look, there were rats. They were in the streets, they were in the houses and they were everywhere. They ate up all the food grains, filled up all kitchens and cleaned up any food they could find. They even ate wood, clothes or anything that came their way, anything and everything except metal. The citizens of the town were terrified and collectively approached the city council to seek help. "Let the cats eat them," someone shouted. "But the cats are all dead, " said another.: Oh, what shall we do?" asked a woman. "Maybe, we can kill them with poisoned food." "But there is no food left, " said the mayor. "We need to do something , we cannot go on living like this. We need some kind of help from outside. How do we get rid of this of black rats ?" asked yet another man. The entire town and the council felt very sad. They thought, they would never be able to rid their beautiful town of the ugly rats.
And then one day .... Knock. Knock. There was a loud sound on the council door. "Who can it be ?" wondered the council staffs. They slowly opened the door and saw a strange thin man. He was dressed in the brightest clothes they had ever seen. His hat had a long feather and he had a beautiful gold in his hand. "Many towns I have helped, " said the stranger, "And freed them of pests. I can rid your town of all kinds of pests." "REALLY?" ASKED THE TOWNSPEOPLE ASSEMBLED AT THE CITY COUNCIL. 'Yes, of course, said the stranger. "All you need to promise me is to pay a thousand gold coins." " A thousand? You can have fifty thousand gold coins if you help free us from these ugly rats, : said the mayor. "Then, tomorrow morning your town will be free from rats, " said the stranger. The mayor, the council staffs and the townspeople were not sure about this. They looked at him with questioning eyes as he walked away with his golden flute.
The next morning, just before the first rays of the sun lit up the city, there was the beautiful sound of a pipe in the streets of Hamelin. It picked up and soon filled every nook and cranny of the city. The music seemed to have a strange effect on the rats. As the Pied Piper slowly walked through the streets, they followed him. From every house, every lane, every gutter, wherever they were, they flocked to him as he played the tune and walked through the city streets. Slowly the strange procession made its way to the river. The Pied Piper went on playing the flute and kept walking till he was waist deep in the river. All the rats followed him and were drowned. By the time the sun was high in the sky, not even a single rat was left in Hamelin. A cry of delight swept the town and everyone including the city council staffs and the mayor were overjoyed . That is till the Pied Piper came to claim his prize. "Fifty thousand gold coins, are you mad ?" said the mayor.
"The rats are all gone, they will never come back, why should we pay so much ?" "Okay, give me A THOUSAND GOLD COINS, THEN, " said the Pied Piper. "No way, " said the mayor. 'I will give you fifty florins, take that or nothing at all." The Pied Piper was very angry. "You will regret this mistake, forever," he said and vanished. Everyone was very afraid as to what the Pied Piper would do, but the mayor said, "why are you worried? I saved fifty thousand gold coins and we are free from rats, what more do we need? " So, everyone went home and had a sound sleep for the first time in many weeks.
At dawn, only the children of the city heard a strange piping sound that seemed to be calling them. They left their houses, their sleeping parents and flocked to the Pied Piper as he made his way through the sleeping town of Hamelin. They left the town, crossed the wood and the neighboring forest till they reached the foot of a great mountain. The piper played louder and louder until a door opened in the rock. Inside was a great cave. Once by one, all he children followed the piper inside the cave. When all the children had gone inside the cave, the door slammed shut and there was a great landslide that hid the mountain face forever. Only one boy survived in the entire town. He was lame and could not keep up with others. He told the people about what had happened. The people went looking for their children, but could never find them; they were lost in the mountain forever. In time, children were born again and slowly the town was filled with their joyous voices, but the citizens of Hamelin never forget the lesson they had leant from the Pied Piper and passed it down from generation to generation.

The Souvenir
With the tip of her nose pressed to the window of the space shuttle, Sayali sat gazing at the view outside for so long, still she didn't seem to be contended. She had read the description of this view several times before and had seen this scene on the video too. But this was different ! Reading the description was one things. watching the picture and videos captured by the camera was another but getting an opportunity to view that amazing panorama with your own eyes, being present physically right in the midst of it, was indeed an 'out of the world' experience ! No matter how long she sat gazing , her awe and wonder did not seem to abate. The earth gradually appeared to get smaller and smaller in the sky. The azure blue sky was now looking jet black. The clouds had disappeared, the stars were shining bright.
On returning home, Sayali told her mother very enthusiastically, "Mummy, look what I have brought for you !" Her mother picked up the earrings. She exclaimed, "Hello dear, how am I going to wear such heavy earrings ?" Sayali immediately realized her mistake. Sayali had purchased the earrings in the field of the moon's gravity.

Saying so, she left as suddenly as she arrived.
The king and the queen were helpless and hurt. But a good fairy stepped in and uttered some magical words, " With all my power , I replace the death curse with many years of sleep." She told the king and the queen , that the curse would apply to everyone in the castle, and it would break only when a handsome prince will kiss the princess' hand. The king was very sad and at once gave out an order , " I forbid the use of spindle throughout the kingdom from now on."
The king's soldiers quickly spread the news of the new order and every spindle in the country was destroyed. The king and the queen prayed for the safety of their only daughter every day and night. But one day, the Princess, on her eighteenth birthday, wandered through the castle, and came into a room where an old servant was using a spindle. Over the years, the king's order had faded away from the people's mind. The princess had never seen a spindle before. She politely asked the woman, 'May I work on the spindle ?" And the old servant agreed. The princess began working on the spindle. Suddenly, the thing that the king and the queen were most afraid of happened. The princess pricked her finger on the spindle and cried," What is happening to me?" The princess soon fainted and fell to the ground. The witch's words had indeed come true.
The witch - fairy's spell started working. One after the other, every single soldier, minister in the castle began losing consciousness. They were never to get up until their princess did. A gloomy silence fell on the whole castle. The king and the queen laid their beautiful daughter on a bed and waited beside her. They were the last to fall unconscious Before that, they came to see their daughter for one last time. They remembered the good fairy's words," Only when a handsome prince kisses your daughter's hand, she will come back to life."
Hundreds of years passed. The castle remained deserted. The tress grew tall in the castle grounds. The bushes became thick, the grass covered the courtyards and the creepers spread up the walls. A dense forest grew up that hid the castle from view . Then one fine day. a handsome prince of a distant land, who had heard of the curse braved the woods and entered the castle. The prince reached the room where the princess lay unconscious. He saw the princess and was amazed to see how beautiful she was. "She is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, " thought the prince. He fell down on his knees and kiered the princess' hand with full love for her in his heart. At that moment, the spell broke. Everyone in the castle rose to their feet, but couldn't realized what had happened. The princess looked into the eyes of the prince and said, "I hoped you would come one day." The prince asked her, " Will you marry me, O princess?" And the princess agreed.
Soon, the prince married the princess amidst celebrations and they lived happily ever after.

Papa Panov's Special Christmas
It was Christmas Eve and although it was still afternoon lights had begun to appear in the shops and houses of the little Russian village, for the short winter day was nearly over. Excited children scurried indoors and now only muffled sounds of chatter and laugher escaped from closed shutters. Old Papa Panov, the village shoemaker, stepped outside his shop to take one last look around. The sounds of happiness. the bright lights and the faint but delicious smells of Christmas cooking reminded him of past Christmas times when his wife had still been alive and his own children little. Now they had gone. His usually cheerful face, with the little laughter wrinkles behind the round steel spectacles, looked sad now. But he went back indoors with a firm step, put up the shutters and set a pot of coffee to heat on the charcoal stove. Then with a sigh, he settle in his big armchair.
Papa Panov did not often read, but tonight he pulled down the big old family Bible and, slowly tracing the lines with one forefinger, he read again the Christmas story. He read how Mary and Joseph, tired by their journey to Bethlehem, found no room for them at the inn, so that Mart's little baby was born in the cowshed. "Oh, dear, oh, dear!" exclaimed Papa Panov, "if only they had come here ! I would have given them my bed and I could have covered the baby with my patchwork quilt to keep him warm." He read on about the wise men who had come to see the baby Jesus, bringing him splendid gifts.
Papa Panov's face fell. "I have no gift that I could give him," he thought sadly. Then his face brightened. He put down the Bible, got up and stretched his long arms to the shelf high up in his little room. He took down a small, dusty box and opened it. Inside was a perfect pair of tiny leather shoes. Papa Panov smiled with satisfaction. Yes, they were as good as he had remembered - the best shoes he had ever made, "I should give him those," he decided, as he gently put them away and sat down again. He was feeling tired now, and the further he read the sleepier he became. The print began to dance before his eyes so that he closed them, just for a minute. In no time at all Papa Panov was fast asleep. Ans as he slept he dreamed. He dreamed that someone was in his room and he knew at once, as one does in dreams, who the person was. It was Jesus. "You have been wishing that you could see me, Papa Panov, " He said kindly ,"Then look for me tomorrow. It will be Christmas Day and I will visit you. But look carefully, for I shall not tell you who I am,."
When at last Papa Panov awoke, the bells were ringing out and a thin light was filtering through the shutters. "Bless my soul !" said Papa Panov. "It's Christmas Day!" He stood up and stretched himself for he was rather stiff. Then his face filled with happiness as he remembered his dream. This would be a very special Christmas after all, for Jesus was coming to visit him. How would he look ? Would he be a little baby, as at that first Christmas ? Would he be a grown man, a carpenter - or the great King that he is, Jesus ? He must watch carefully the whole day through so that he recognized him however he come.
Papa Panov put on a special pot of coffee for his Christmas breakfast, took down the shutters and looked out of the window. The street was deserted, no one was stirring yet. No one except the road sweeper. He looked as miserable and dirty as ever, and well he might ! Whoever wanted to work on Christmas Day - and in the raw cold and bitter freezing mist of such a morning ? Papa Panov opened the shop door, letting in a thin stream of cold air. "Come in ! "he shouted across the street cheerily. "Come in and have some hot coffee to keep out the cold!"
The sweeper looked up, scarcely able to believe his ears He was only too glad to put down his broom and come into the warm room. His old clothes steamed gently in the heat of the stove and he clasped both red hands rounds the comforting warm mug as he drank. Papa Panov watched him with satisfaction, but every now and then his eyes strayed to the window. It would never do to miss his special visitor. "Expecting someone?" the sweeper asked at last. So Papa Panov told him about his dream.
"Well, I hope he comes, " the sweeper said, "You 've given me a bit of Christmas cheer I never expected to have, I'd say you deserve to have your dream come true, " And he actually smiled. When he had gone, Papa Panov put on cabbage soup for his dinner, then went to the door again, scanning the street. He saw no one. But he was mistaken. Someone was coming. The girl walked so slowly and quietly, hugging the walls of shops and houses, that it was a while before he noticed her. She looked very tired and she was carrying something. As she drew nearer he could see that it was a baby, wrapped in a thin shawl. There was such sadness in her face and in the pinched little face of the baby, that Papa Panov's heart went out to them.
"Won't you come in," he called, stepping outside to meet them. "You both need a warm by the fire and a rest." The young mother let him shepherd her indoors and to the comfort of the armchair. She gave a big sigh of relief. "I'll warm some milk for the baby," Papa Panov said, " I've had children of my own - I a can feed her for you." He took the milk from the stove and carefully fed the baby from a spoon, warming her tiny feet by the stove at the same time. "She needs shoes," the cobbler said. But the girl replied, "I can't afford shoes, I've got no husband to bring home money. I'm on my way to the next village to get work."
A sudden thought flashed through Papa Panovs mind. He remembered the little shoes he had looked at least night. But he had been keeping those for Jesus. He looked again at the cold little feet and made up his mind. 'Try these on her," he said, handing the baby and the shoes to the mother. The beautiful little shoes were a perfect fit. The girl smiled happily and the baby gurgled with pleasure. "You have been so kind to us, " the girl said, when she got up with her baby to go. "May all your Christmas wishes come true !" But Papa Panov was beginning to wonder if his very special Christmas wish would come true. Perhaps he had missed his visitor ? He looked anxiously up and down the street. There were plenty of people about but they were all faces that he recognized. There were neighbors going to call on their families. They nodded and smiled and wised him Happy Christmas ! Or beggars - and Papa Panov hurried indoors to fetch them hot soup and a generous hunk of bread, hurrying out again in case he missed the ' Important Stranger'.
All too soon the winter dusk fell. When Papa Panov next went to the door and strained his eyes, he could no longer make out the passers - by. Most were home and indoors by now anyway. He walked slowly back into his room at last, put up the shutters, and sat down wearily in his armchair. So it had been just a dream after all. Jesus had not come. Then all at once he knew that he was no longer alone in the room. This was not a dream for he was wide awake. At first he seemed to see before his eyes the long stream of people who had come to him that day. He saw again the old road sweeper, the young mother and her baby and the beggars he had fed. As they passed, each whispered, "Didn't you see me, Papa Panov ?" "Who are you ?" he called out, bewildered. Then another voice answered him. It was the voice from his dream - the voice of Jesus.
"I was hungry and you fed me," he said. "I was naked and you clothed me. I was cold and you warmed me. I come to you today in everyone of those you helped and welcomed." Then all was quiet and still. Only the sound of the big clock ticking could be heard. A great peace and happiness seemed to fill the room, overflowing Papa Panov;s heart until he wanted to burst out singing and laughing and dancing with joy.
"So he did come after all !" was all that he said.

Aladdin And The Magic Lamp
Once upon a time, there lived a boy, Aladdin with his poor widow mother in a small town. One evening while he was playing , a stranger came and said, "I am your uncle. Take me to your home; I have brought many goodies." When Aladdin took him home, the stranger said to mother, "You all don't know me as I have been away for past forty years to earn wealth." The stranger was actually a cunning magician who wanted to use Aladdin for his own benefit. He asked the mother to send the boy with him and he would make Aladdin work and earn money. Next morning, they both left and travelled over hills and valleys . Aladdin also got a beautiful ring from the magician.
One day they reached an isolated valley. There the magician spelled some magical chants and a stone appeared on the ground. The magician lighted a torch and gave it to Aladdin and said, "Remove the stone and go inside. You will find an old lamp in the cave. Bring that for me." Aladdin went inside the cave and saw jewels and precious stones pilling in a corner of the cave. He collected plenty of them. He also found that old lamp there. Aladdin picked that lamp and returned to the mouth of the cave.
The magician asked him to give the lamp first and then he would pull him out. When Aladdin refused to do so, he closed the cave with a large stone. As it was very cold inside, he started rubbing his hands together to get some warmth. Accidently, he rubbed the ring which the magician gave him. A thick white smoke came out from the ring and a genie appeared.
"What can I do for you, my master ?" asked the genie. "Take me home," ordered Aladdin. When he returned home, he gave all the treasures along with old lamp to his mother. She was very happy. As she rubbed the lamp to clean the dirt, thick white smoke started coming out of the lamp and a genie appeared.
"Oh master ! What can I do for you ?" asked the genie. " Get us some good food and wine," ordered Aladdin. A table was laid with tasty food and good wine. Aladdin and his mother enjoyed the royal treat. They become very rich and started living in a huge house. They got rid of all their problems with two genies serving them all the time.

Seeing Aladdin's condition, his mother went to the king with the marriage proposal. She also presented precious jewels to the king. He agreed for the marriage. When Aladdin got the good news, he ordered his lamp genie to bring rich clothes and gifts for the royal marriage. A magnificent palace decorated with gems and precious stones was also made by the genie. Finally, Aladdin got married to Princess Zebbunisha and started living in the new palace. When the magician came to know about Aladdin's royal life, at once he understood that Aladdin has that old lamp and planned to steal it. He went to the palace as a lamp seller When Aladdin was not around. He offered Zebbunisha new lamps in exchange of old lamps. She brought that old lamp kept in Aladdin's cupboard and gave it to him. The moment he got the lamp, he rushed away and rubbed it. When the genie appeared , he ordered to take him to a far off land along with the palace and the princess. So did the genie in no time.
When Aladdin returned, he didn't find the palace and his wife, He easily understood that the magician has stolen the old lamp. He became so sad that he wished to die. Just then an idea came to his mind and he rubbed his magic ring. When the genie appeared , he ordered, "Take me to my wife." The genie took him to the palace in no time. Zebbunisha was so glad to see him. When Aladdin enquired about the lamp, she informed that the magician carries it in his belt all the time.
At night, Zebbunisha went to the magician and said, "I will marry you, but before that I wish to celebrate with you." She then poisoned the magician and took away the lamp. With the help of the genie, Aladdin took his palace back to his old city. Thereafter, they lived happily in the royal palace.

Unke Munke Timpetoo
"It will be a fantastic birthday this year," I said in a mocking tone. "All I will get is a pair of shoes and a hand-knitted pullover. I had asked for a table tennis set, but my mother said, 'It is totally out of the question this year'," My friend, Muk looked at me thoughtfully. He drew a bit closer and said, "Well, Rohan, I don't say I believe in it, but my cousin said it works. And there is no harm trying, don't you think ?" " Trying what ?" I asked. "Well, my cousin said, 'If you really want something badly, all you have to do is to run around a banyan tree at midnight and chant seventeen times : Unke, Munke, Timpetoo;."
I desperately wanted my wish to come true. Still I asked, "Why seventeen times and why at midnight ?" "Don't ask me, " replied Muk, who was my best friends. "That is how it is done, I suppose. Why not try it ? It would not do any harm." I thought it was all nonsense. Besides, I couldn't think of any banyan tree in our neighborhood. There was one in old Mrs Groover's garden. But who dared to enter her garden ? Not me ! And not at midnight ! Mrs Groover had been the principal of our school till last year. One look from her piercing pale green eyes was enough to silence bullies like Rinkoo Lal of Class IX. I had seen it happen with my own eyes.
'Forget it," I said. However, the thought kept haunting me till the day before my birthday and I JUST Could not think of anything else. "Okay," I said to Muk. "if you come along with me, I will go to Mrs. Groover's garden tonight and di it." "Why should I come along ?" asked Muk, "I have no secret wish." "Come on, let us go and wish for my table tennis set." So, at ten minutes to twelve Muk and I met at the back of old Mrs. Droover's garden. We climbed and sat on the boundary wall. We looked down into the garden. Which lay dark and silent in the dim light of the moon. And there was a banyan tree, its aerial roots swaying in the gentle breeze of the night. We jumped down, reached the tree and looked around carefully.
"Imagine, if she is awake!" I whispered and pointed at Mrs Groover's house. "Nobody is awake at this ghostly hour of the night, " hissed Muk. "Now get going. Run !" I ran. I ran as fast as I could, chanting "Unke, Munke, Timpetoo, I wish my wish is coming true !" Over and over again. I felt a bit scared . That was why I tried to get it over quickly and increased my speed. I increased the chanting too ! And all the while I went on listening to the sound of the night, a crackle here, a swish there.
Suddenly a ferocious bark tore the stillness of the night ! I froze. Inside Mrs Groover's house, lights flashed on and the backdoor was pushed open. "Who is there ?" called Mrs Groover. "Answer, or I will send the dog at you ." "Muk Muk," I mumbled, "say something. "But Muk was climbing up the tree. When I saw Mrs Groover bend down to unleash the dog, I pleaded, "Please don't send the dog at us. I will explain everything, if you let me." "Speak out soon, " Mrs Groover shouted.
I told her everything. I feared, she might not believe me. But she listened to me without interruption. She just looked at me with the hard, light green eyes of hers as if she was trying to see right into my heart. "So ?" she asked finally, "and you believe in Unke, Munke, Timpotoo ? Do you think it will help ?" I dropped my head and said softly, "I hope it will !" "Well, " she returned, "if you believe so, go and finish your rounds, " She turned saying , " and while leaving would you mind using the front gate ?" I did finish the remaining six round and left her garden using the front gate. I swore that I WOULD never return.
And then the great moment came. I opened my gifts, rejoiced over my new pair of shoes and the hand - knitted pullover ! And then my eyes fell on a parcel. A big parcel ! I had never received such a big parcel earlier. "To Rohan Khanna, " I read, "From Unke, Munke, Timpetoo !" I stared at Muk, and he looked as surprised as I was. My mother asked, "Who is Unke, Munke, Timpetoo ? Isn't that an unusual name ?" "Yes ," I said "very unusual indeed." I bent over the parcel and began to unpack it. I removed the strings and the paper impatiently. Finally I removed the colorful gift wrapping and found a table tennis set ! It was not a brand new table tennis set, but it was a fabulous one. "Wow," I whispered, just "Wow !"
Till today Muk swears he has nothing to do with it. And so do my parents. I wondered if old Mrs Groover was responsible for the surprise. I wondered for a very long time. One day I gathered up all the courage I possessed and went to meet Mrs Groover. I used the front gate and rang the bell. I had gone over my lines a hundred times, but when she looked down on me with her pale green eyes, I felt my heart sink, and my courage vanish and all I could do was stutter like an idiot. "Good afternoon, Madam, do you, I mean ..... did you, have you ...... sorry , but ..... do you believe in ..... Unke , Munke, Timpetoo ?"
Mrs Groover continued to look at me with a strange look in her eyes. She replied softly but seriously, "Yes, I do believe in Unke, Munke, Timpetoo. I had wished to have somebody over for tea today. And here you are ! Now isn't it a perfect example of Unke, Munke, Timpetoo ?" She smiled, and she looked so different, almost human !
From that day onwards Muk and I want to see old Mrs Groover quite often. Not only because she made the best tea and had the best cookies. No! we went because we liked her. And then we had one things in common. We all believed in Unke, Munke, Timpetoo !

The Ugly Duckling
Once there lived a beautiful duck in a farmhouse situated deep inside the valley of birds. There she had laid few eggs and was excited for them to hatch. She would spend most of her time sitting on those eggs. Finally, one day the eggs hatched and beautiful little ducklings came out of them. The mother duck was very happy to see her ducklings until she found that the biggest egg has not hatched yet. An old lady duck who lived nearby suggested that the big egg must be of turkey. "I can't leave this egg for a doubt," said the mother duck. 'I will continue sitting on it, until it hatches, " she confirmed. Thereafter, she regularly sat on that egg to give it enough warmth to hatch. One day the egg hatched and a small grey-closured duckling came out of the shell. The mother duck was very sad to see an ugly duckling and the other ducklings laughed at him.
Few days later, the mother duck took the ducklings to the nearby pond for swimming. All the ducklings jumped into the pond for swimming, including that ugly one. Seeing the ugly grey duckling swimming so, well, the mother duck realized that he is not of a turkey. 'May be you will change into a beautiful duck when you grow up," hoped the mother duck while going back to the farmhouse along with her ducklings. On their way back to the farmhouse, all the birds were making bad comments seeing the ugly grey duckling which made the mother duck upset again. Being ashamed of such an ugly duckling, she stopped taking him to the pond along with other ducklings. As such the poor grey duckling had to swim alone in the pond. The other birds in the pond were not less cruel. They bit him with their sharp broad bills. When on land, hens pecked on him and turkeys charged at him. Moreover, his own siblings chased him away as soon as he comes to have food with them. The poor little ugly duckling was very sad and did not know what to do. One day the mother duck was very disturbed and asked the ugly duckling to leave the valley and go away.
The poor duckling was very sad, felt insulted and left the valley in chilly winter. He spent a night alone on the marshes. There was a log lying nearby which had a small hole. He made that hole in the log his new home and use to come out of it only to feed him when there were no birds around. Soon the hole in the log was filled with snow and he had to leave that place as well. He, then, found heap of dry oats nearby. He spent few nights inside it to protect him from winter. One day he saw three little cats playing near the heap he was hiding in. Bing frightened, he ran away from that place. After crossing marshes and ponds, he found a house .
He decided to spend the winter behind the bushes inside the house. The children inside the house wanted to paly with him, but being frightened he use to run away from them . Months passed and the winter was over. One day while running away from the children , he came out of the house and suddenly realized that he could fly now. He kept flying until he reached a pond. There he saw saw very beautiful swans swimming in the pond and wished to join them swimming. Being ashamed of his ugly look, he could not do that. Suddenly, when he saw his own reflection in the pond, he was very surprised and joyous. He was no longer an ugly duckling and had become a magnificent, white, large swan. He joyfully joined the other swans swimming in the pond.

A Crow in the House
The young crow had fallen from its nest ant was fluttering about on the road, in danger of being crushed by a cart or a Tonga, or seized by a cat, when I Picked it up and brought it home. It was in a sorry condition, beak gaping and head dropping, and we did not expect it to live. But Grandfather and I did our best to bring it round. We fed it by prizing its beak gently open with a pencil, pushing in a a little bread and milk, and then removing the pencil to allow it to swallow. We varied this diet with occasional doses of Grandmothers home -made plum wine, and as a result, the young crow was soon on the road to recovery.
He was offered his freedom but he did not take it. Instead he made himself at home in the house. Grandmother. Aunt Mabel, and even some of Grandfather pets objected; but there was no way of getting rid of the bird. He took over the administration of the house. We were not sure that he was male, but we called him Caesar. Before long, Caesar was joining us at meal tines, besides finding his own grubs or beetles in the garden. He danced about on the dining table and gave us no peace until he had been given his small bowl of meat and soup and vegetables. He was always restless. fidgeting about, investigating things. He would hop across a table to empty a match - box of its content, or rip the daily paper to shreds, or overturn a vase of flowers, or tug at the tail of one of the dogs.
'That crow will be the ruin of us!' grumbled Grandmother, picking marigolds off the carpet. 'Can't you keep him in a cage ?' We did try keeping Caesar in cage, but he was so angry, and objected with such fierce cawing and flapping, that it was better for our nerves and peace of mind to give him the run of the house. He did not show any inclination to join the other crows in the banyan tree. Grandfather said this was because he was really a jungle crow - a raven of sorts - and probably felt little contemptuous of very ordinary carrion crows. But it seemed to me that Caesar, having grown used to living with humans on equal terms, had become snobbish and did not wish to mix his own kind. He would even squabble with Harold the Hornbill. Perching on top of Harold's cage, he would peck at the big bird's feet, whereupon Harold would swear and scold and try to catch Caesar through the bars.
In time, Caesar leant to talk a little - as ravens sometimes do-in a cracked, throaty voice. He would sit for hours outside the window, banging on the glass with his beak and calling, 'Hello, hello .' He seemed to recognize the click of the gate when I came home from school, and would come to the door with a hop, skip and jump, saying, 'Hello, hello !' I had also taught him to sit on my arm and say 'kiss, kiss'. while he placed his head gently against my mouth.
On one of Aunt Mabel's visits, Caesar alighted on her arm and cackled, "Kiss, Kiss!" Aunt Mable was delighted - and possibly flattered - and learnt forward for a kiss. But Caesar's attention shifted to my aunt's gleaming spectacles, and thrusting at them with his beak, he knocked them off. Aunt Mabel never was a success with the pets. Pet or pest ? Grandmother insisted that Caesar was a pest, in spite of his engaging habits. If he had restricted his activities to our own house, it would not have been so bad; but he took to visiting neighboring houses and stealing pens and pencils, hair - ribbons, combs, keys, shuttlecocks, toothbrushes and false teeth. He was especially fond of toothbrushes, and made a collection of them on top of the cupboard in my room. Most of the neighbors were represented in our house by a toothbrush . Toothbrush sales went up that year. So did Grandmother's blood - pressure.
one morning I found him dead on the sofa, his legs stiff in the air. Poor Caesar ! His anti - social habits had led to his early end. I dug a shallow grave in the garden, and buried him there, along with all the toothbrushes and clothes pegs he had taken so much trouble to collect.

At the planned time, when the leader signaled for his men , no one came forward. When he went to see what happened, he saw they were all dead and he ran away. He informed the wolf that Sher Khan, the tiger, was roaming around in his area for hunting. The wolf got annoyed and said, "How dare he do that ? This is my area. He cannot hunt here !" But before either of them could say anything else, they heard a child's cry. "What was that ?" asked Tabaqui. "Sounds like a child's cry, "replied the father Wolf. Sure enough, they found a human baby behind some bushes. He was wailing loudly as he was very hungry. The father wolf was worried that Sher Khan would find the baby and harm him. So, he decided to take the baby home. "You cannot take the baby home! What will the other animals say ?" cautioned Tabaqui. The father wolf did not pay attention to Tabaqui's warning and took the baby home. He looked so beautiful and innocent that his wife immediately fell in love with the baby and decided to bring him up along with her other cubs. The family decided to call the baby 'Mowgli'.
In this way, the baby became a part of their family . But other animals were not very happy with this decision of the wolf family. Thus, they held a meeting to decide what to do. Akela, the leader of the wolves said, "To let the baby live in the jungle, we need to have two more animals from the jungle, other than the wolves, to speak in his favors. " Baloo - the bear and Bagheera - the panther spoke up, "As he is still a baby, he will learn the ways of the jungle and will also learn to live the way we do, We will take up the responsibility of teaching him everything."

But Baloo and Bagheera warned Mowgli, "You have been living with us in the jungle for a long time. You will not be able to survive with humans. However.
one day , you might have to leave us Till then you stay here with us." Few days later, news spread all through the forest that Sher Khan was tired of eating animals in the jungle and was now keen to eat Mowgli. Baloo and Bagheera were alarmed. They decided to do something about this. They told Mowgli to get some burning coal from the nearby village. Bagheera further said, "Whenever you see Sher Khan approaching. you should dip a stick in the burning coal and wave it at him." One day, when Sher Khan tried to attack Mowgli, he did the same and chased Sher Khan away.
The next day, Mowgli's family and friends decided that he should go to the village now, as Sher Khan would not spare him. Although Mowgli didn't want to go, he had to leave. Mowgli understood that he was putting everyone in danger by staying in the jungle. Finally, he went to live in the nearby village. Soon, he learnt the language and manner of the people of the village. One day, the village head told Mowgli to take his buffaloes to the fields outside the village for grazing. When Mowgli reached the fields just outside the village, he met Bagheera who warned him that Sher Khan was still after him. Soon, Mowgli spotted Sher Khan in the nearby field. Mowgli decided to let loose all the buffaloes grazing there. As Mowgli approached the fields, he ordered the buffaloes to run towards Sher Khan. Before Sher Khan could realize what was happening. he was crushed by running buffaloes and died. Mowgli proudly went to the jungle with Sher Khan's flesh and to the jungle with Sher Khan's flesh and told everybody that he had killed Sher Khan. Everybody heaved a sigh of relief. It was a New Years eve and people were celebrating with great prompt and show at their warm houses as well as in the streets. While it was a festive atmosphere everywhere, there was a small girl sitting at the corner of a street beside a fountain to sell some of her match boxes. Her clothes were torn and old and she was shivering in the cold. She spent the entire day, but could not sell even a single match box. She could not go back home bare hand as she was afraid of her father's anger. Moreover, as she lived in a small room on the top floor, the house was also nit so warmer. It was freezing cold and her bare feet were getting frozen and the fingers were getting stiffer.
The little girl wanted to light a match to get some sort of warmth, but she dared not to do this. She thought that her father would scold her if he got to know about the wastage. As the time was passing, it got more freezing . Now, she couldn't control and lit a math. She felt so better with the warmth of the little flame of the match. In that light, she saw a stove burning brightly. As she got up to take the warmth of the stove, the match went off and the stove also got disappeared. The little girl was again shivering in that chilling night. After controlling for some time, she lit another match. This time she saw a large dining table decorated with candles and laden with delicious foodies. As she got up to grab a hot bun, the match again went off and the royal feast disappeared. She was very sad as she missed the chance of having those delicious foods and tears rolled down from her eyes. She lit another match and this time she saw a huge Christmas tree beautifully decorated with candles, sweets, closured balls, etc. As she raised her hand in excitement to touch that Christmas tree, the match again turned off.
The tree went higher in the sky, and before it disappeared a candle fell down leaving a sparkling trail behind. This reminded her of her granny's saying - "Whenever a star falls, a heart stops beating. " Now, she lit another match and saw her beloved granny in the light. She was no more worried about her father's anger and kept lighting match one after the other as she does not wanted her granny to disappear like other things. She pleaded, 'Granny ! Take me along with you." She held her granny very tight and could see her granny smiling and looking at her pale face. Next morning, the pale sun appeared and its weak rays fell on the fountain, icy roads and the lifeless body of the little match girl. Seeing the matchsticks around her body which she had burnt in the night, people easily guessed how hard she had tried to keep her alive in that freezing night.

The cruel woman wanted to get rid of the two children. 'Take them far away from home, so that they cannot find their way back!" she ordered him. The poor woodcutter didn't know what to do. Hansel had overheard his parents talking . " Don't worry! If they leave us in the forest, I'll make sure that we find our way back home," he said . He filled his pockets with little white pebbles and went back to bed. Finally, at dawn, the woodcutter led Hansel and Gretel into the forest. While they walked, Hansel was dropping the little white pebbles on the way. After walking for a long time, the woodcutter mumbled an excuse and left them alone. When night fell, the woodcutter did not return. Gretel began to sob and cry. Hansel tried to comfort her. "Don't cry, Gretel!
I'll take you home soon!" Since it was a full moon night, the children could see what lay in front of them. The white pebbles shone in the moonlight, and the children found their way home. They quietly slipped into bed. Next day, when their stepmother discovered that Hansel and Gretel had returned, he flew into a rage. She kept Hansel and Gretel inside their room all day and gave them only a sip of water and some hard bread.
Hansel, however, did not eat his bread. Once again, the poor woodcutter took the children into the forest. As he walked through the trees, Hansel left a trail of bread crumbs behind him to mark the way. But the hungry birds that lived in the forest swooped down, and, in no time at all, had eaten all the crumbs. The woodcutter again left his two children by themselves. "I' ve left a trail this time too!" Hansel said to Gretel. But, they found to their horror that all the crumbs were missing. Gretel wept bitterly and cried, "I'm cold and hungry and I want to go home !" All night the two children huddled together at the foot of a large tree. At daybreak, they started to wander about in the forest, until they came across a strange cottage in the middle of a clearing.
They approached the cottage cautiously. When Hansel touched the cottage, a piece broke away in his hands. "This is chocolate!" gasped Hansel. "And this is icing!" cried Gretel. The hungry children began to eat pieces of chocolate broken from the cottage. Suddenly the door of the cottage opened. An old woman, peered out. "Come in! Don't be afraid!" said the old woman. The old woman was actually a witch who trapped people with her cunning words. The children stepped inside the cottage and the witch immediately locked the door. "You're nothing but skin and bones!" said the witch, locking Hansel in a cage. "I shall fatten you up before I eat you!" "You can do the housework," she told Gretel. So Gretel started cooking for the witch and Hansel.
One day, the witch suddenly said to Gretel, "Light the oven, we're goin to cook the boy today!" A little later, she said, "Run and see if the oven is hot enough." Gretel replied, "I can't tell if it is hot enough or not.' As the witch angrily bent down to look inside the oven, Gretel gave her a terrific push and shut the oven. The witch died inside the oven. Gretel set her brother free. They immediately filled a large basket with food and set off to search for their way home. They walked for two days and on the third day they saw their cottage at the edge of the forest. Their father was sitting outside the house and was very happy to see them. He told them that he could not tolerate the nagging by their stepmother and had driven her away. And they all lived happily together.

The Clever Fox
A crow sat on the branch of a tree with a piece of bread in his beak. A fox came by and thought of a plan to get the bread from the crow. He wished the crow a good day. But the crow did not open his mouth since the piece of bread would have fallen down. The fox then said, "You are looking very charming. You should have been made the king of all birds. Please sing a song in your sweet voice for me. "
The flattered crow could not help himself and replied, "Thanks!"
But as soon as he opened his mouth to speak, the piece of bread fell on the the ground below. The clever fox immediately picked up the bread and ran away.

Chasing The Sea Monster
Our frigate wanted to go back, but the unearthly animal came at us with a speed double our own. We gasped. More stunned than afraid, we stood mute and motionless. The animals caught up with us, played with us. made a full circle arounds the frigate and wrapped us in sheets of electricity that were like luminous dust. At any instant it could have dashed against our ship. Meanwhile I was surprised to see that our warship was fleeing. not fighting. I commented on this to Commander Farragut, His face ordinarily so emotionless, showed great astonishment.
'Professor Aronnax," he answered me, "I don't know what kind of fearsome creature I'm up against, and I don't want my frigate running foolish risks in all this darkness. Besides, how should we attack this unknows creature, how should we defend ourselves against it ? Let's wait for day light and then we'll play a different role." The whole crew stayed on their feet all night long. No one even thought of sleeping. Unable to compete with the monster's speed, our frigate, the Abraham Lincoln slowed down. For its part, the animal mimicked the frigate, simply rode with the waves, but did not leave the field of battle.
However, near midnight it disappeared or to use a more appropriate expression, 'it went out, like a huge glowworm. Had it fled from us ? We didn't know and were filled with fear and hope at the same time. But at 12 : 53 a deafening hiss could be heard, resembling the sound made by a water spout expelled with tremendous intensity.
By then Commander Farragut Ned Land, and I WERE ON THE AFTERDECK, PEERING EAGERLY into the darkness. "Tell me, Ned Land, isn't that the noise cetaceans make when they spurt water from their blowholes ?" The very noise, sir, but this one's way louder. So there can be no mistake. There's definitely a whale lurking in our waters." Near two o'clock in the morning, the core of light reappeared, five , miles away from the Abraham Lincoln. We stayed on the alert until daylight, getting ready for action. Whaling gear was set up along the railings. Our chief officer loaded the blunderbusses. Which can launch harpoons as far as a mile, and long duck gun with exploding bullets that can wound and kill even the most powerful animals. Ned Land was content to sharpen his harpoon, a dreadful weapon in his hands.
At six o'clock day began to break, and with the dawn's early light, the animal's electric glow disappeared. At seven o'clock a very dense morning mist spread around us. Our best spyglasses were unable to pierce it. The outcome : disappointment and anger. At eight o'clock the mist rolled away, and the horizon grew wider and clearer. Suddenly, Ned Land's voice could be heard. " There's the things in question, astern to port!" the harpooner shouted. Every eye looked toward the point indicated. There, a mile an a half from the frigate, a long blackish body emerged a meter above the waves. Quivering violently, its tails was creating a considerable current.
The crew were waiting impatiently for orders from their leader. The latter after carefully observing the animal, ordered the engineer to sail full steam towards the animals. Three cheers greeted this order. The hour of battle had sounded. A few moments later, the Abraham Lincoln headed straight for the animals. Unconcerned, the latter let us com nearer, it got up a little speed , and kept its distance. This chase dragged on for about three - quarters of an hour without the frigate getting any closer to the sea animal. At this rate, it was obvious that we would never catch up with it.
The Abraham Lincoln gathered speed but so did the animal. This went on for the next hour. The Abraham Lincoln was now speeding so much that its masts trembled down to their blocks. What a chase ! No, I can't describe the excitement that shook my very being. Ned Land stayed at his post, harpoon in hand. Several times the animals let us approach. Then, just as the harpooner was about to strike, the cetacean would steal off swiftly. Commander Farragut then decided to use more direct methods.
"Bah!" he said. "So that animals is faster than the Abraham Lincoln. All right , Mate, man the gun in the bow !" Our forecastle cannon was immediately loaded and levelled. The cannoneer fired a shot, but his shell passed some feet above the cetacean, which stayed half a mile off. "Over to somebody with better aim !" the Commander shouted. "And $500.00 to the man who can pierce that infernal beast!" Clam of eyes, cool of feature, an old gray - bearded gunner - I can see him to this day - approached the cannon, put it in position, and took aim for a good while. There was a mighty explosion, mingled with cheers from the crew.
The shell reached its target ; it hit the animals, but bounced off its rounded surface and vanished into the sea two miles out. "Oh drat!" said the old gunner in his anger. "That monster must be covered with six - inch amour plate!" The hunt was on again. Hour after hour went by without the animals showing the least sign of weariness. However, it must be said that we, too, struggled on tirelessly. At 10:50 in the evening, that electric light reappeared three miles away from the frigate, just as clear and intense as the night before. The monster seemed motionless. Was it asleep perhaps, weary from its workday, just riding with the waves ? This was our chance, and Commander Farragut decided to take full advantage of it. He gave his orders.
The Frigate approached without making a sound, stopped two cable lengths from the animal. A profound silence reigned over the deck. We were not 100 feet from the blazing core of light, whose glow grew stronger and dazzled the eyes. Just then, leaning over the forecastle railing, I saw Ned Land below me, brandishing his dreadful harpoon. Barely twenty feet separated him from the motionless animal. All at once his arm shot forward and the harpoon was launched. I heard the weapon make a ringing sound if it had hit some hard substance.
The electric light suddenly went out, and two enormous waterspouts crashed onto the deck of the frigate, racing like a torrent from one end of the ship to the other, toppling crewmen, breaking spare masts and yardarms from their lashings. A hideous collision occurred, and throw over the rail with no time to catch hold of it, I was hurled into the sea.👇

Unity Is Strength
An old man lived with his four sons in a village. The old man was worried. His sons were always quarrelling with each other. They would never agree on any point. The old man had tried telling them many times to avoid fighting. But his sons would not listen to him. They would fight for everything. One day, he called his four sons. He gave them a small bundle of sticks, and asked them to break the bundle into two. "It's so easy," said the eldest son. He took the bundle and tried to break it. He was surprised that the sticks in the bundle remained unbroken. He used more force. He tried again and again. But the bundle of sticks did not break. He gave up .
Then his brothers tried to break the bundle of sticks. They tried hard but they too could not succeed. Their father smiled and asked them to untie the bundle. Now the sticks. were separated. He gave each brother a single stick and asked them to break it. Each of the sons took a stick in hand. In no time, the sticks were bent and broken.
"A Single stick is easily broken. If four sticks come together, it is impossible to break them. If you are united, help each other and live in friendship, you will be stronger than any enemy. But if you are divided among yourselves and keep fighting, you will be as weak as the single stick in that bundle. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall." said the old man, giving his sons a meaningful look.
This time the brothers learnt a lesson. They stopped fighting with each other. They started to work together as a team and that really helped them.

When she saw fishes in the sea, She wanted to swim. When she saw the sea, she wanted to cross it and see what is there on the other side.
After dinner when everyone slept in the front yard, she saw the moon, the stars and wanted to touch them. When her mother heard her wishes, she smiled and said, "Girls cannot do all these things."
